Got my car back from recent recall

Idling seems a tiny tad smoother but that was it. We'll have to see if the oil consumption goes up since the new firmware is supposed to inject more oil.

Ok, when I got my car back after the engine test (no replacement) I thought I shouldn't share my immediate impression since I was driving a 3.7L Jeep loaner for two days - but actually my 8 felt a tiny bit less responsive at low rpm than it used to. Now after having driven it for a week, I can surely say that it does feel slower at low rpms most noticebly in 1st gear. On the other hand, I agree with everyone else about the even smoother response at higher rpms and the fact that now it's very difficult to stall it (i.e. no more playing with the clutch when looking for a free parking spot).

Just call and schedule the appointment for the recall. That's what I did on Monday and set up an appointment for Wednesday. Engine and cat were both fine, sparkplugs replaced, and PCM reflashed. They didn't fill up my tank but it was at about 7/8ths anyway.
I was talking to the service manager and he said that the recall isn't officially in effect until today so that's why we haven't received notices yet.

I called the dealer...they don't have the equiptment yet to do it and he said it would not be for another month and by that time he said I would be getting a second recall letter from Mazda so I have to wait.....hmmmmmm....get the feeling I won't be selling my car anytime soon and may have to hang on to it 2 more years....it's not so bad but I really need the space for my jewelry stuff and my son!!!! Argh!

Dropped my 8 off at about 7:45 this morning for the recall work and got it back at 10:30. Mine got 2 new spark plugs and a re-flash. Everything else checked out ok. The mechanic said the new flash "leans the mixture" a bit, but he didn't elaborate. So, I have no idea just when or where the leaner mixture occurs; idle, low, mid or high RPM, or across the entire power band, or what.
It will be interesting to see if the leaner mixture has any impact on MPG. In any case, my 8 ran great when I took it in, and still runs great. Time will tell...
