Got my car back from recent recall

I took my car in yesterday for the new 'recall' and yes my 04, built date 03 qualified.

My motor is perfectly fine. So no new motor here.

I got 2 new lead plugs and they reprogrammed the pcm. They also gave me a paper copy stating the extended 'powertrain' warranty of 1 year/10K miles.

that is it!

Just thought I would share this with everyone.

recall is worth it, do it!

I hope every single person that gets the recall and doesn't get a new engine starts a new thread...

I havent got my letter yet. Could it be because I bought mine pre-owned?

You don't need to get a letter. If you know you qualify just call your dealer up and schedule an appointment.

We would have eventually figured that out.

But it would be nice to get a letter. If I don't get a letter for a RECALL OF ALL THINGS. Obviously I'm not going to be getting letters for anything else. That needs to change.

I would like Mazda to know that I own an RX8.

Then register here, and you will be able to see if there's any recall for your car.

Recall experience

I took my 2004 RX8 with manual to my friendly dealer for a oil change yesterday. I was informed of the recall (#4206) to check for bad oil seals. I had not received anything in the mail from Mazda so I was clueless. It wasn't till I got home and did some checking on-line that I found out what was going on. Anyway they performed the recall. They must have found the oil seals were okay since all they did was do the ECU reflash and replace two plugs (Part #N3Y9-18-110). I had no problems with loss of power or hesitation. I live in the Washington, DC area and drive my RX8 mostly commuting to work, and don't do alot of high speed crusing. When commuting to work I pretty much keep the RPMs between 4-7K. The only time the RPMs get below 4K is when I am on a highway doing 60-70mph in 6 speed. They also replaced my starter although I had no starting problems (I am religious about not starting the engine and then turning it right off). I am wondering if the reported oil seal problems occuring in hot and dry climates (like the USA SW) also is because in those areas people then to drive in high speed cruising mode (low RPMs) for long periods of time. Also is Mazda's recommend 5W-20 oil a contributing factor. I have followed that recommendation but always thought that a heavier weight oil might be better.

took mine in this morning to get 30k mile service and left it there so they can test my engine. Just waiting for that phone call, and hoping that its not bad news. Not to mention they gave me a CX-7 loaner car. I do have to admit for a SUV it's really nice

I had the recall done yesterday also. Same results as you but did not get paper on entended "powertrain: warrany". Do you know anything on who, when and where this extended warranty will be issued to/for?

My dealership is doing the same thing, giving out CX-7s as loaners for this recall. That's not a bad deal.

Yup, they just removed it. It was there for the last week or so. May be they are updating the site.
