Got a Mustang. I miss my RX-8...
Well about 3 months ago I got rid of my RX-8 because I was just plain tired of having no torque and wanted something more feasible to modify without spending a fortune....
So I bought an '02 Mustang GT. And I wish I would have never sold my Mazda.
Everything about these cars is spot on; the steering, brakes, handing (WOW do i ******* miss the handling!!!!) and just the little things. It is such a massive difference going from rotary to muscle.
I dont know where this thread is going but I just wanted to let potential buyers and the rest of this community that these cars are worth absolutley every penny and I will always have a major soft-spot for them. Maybe a the 2017 RX will make me trade in my Mustang?
P.S. dont trade your mazda for a mustang

Yeah, no more beeping at 10k rpms No more coffee warmers (cup holders, lol) No more feeling connected to the car...I swear I had a relationship with this damn car. I felt so damn connected when I was driving it. I feel absolutley nothing with this mustang...except alot of pain in my wallet when i mash throttle and ruin pavement.
But damn. Part of me wishes I would have kept it and went with boost. But the change in what you can do these Modular engines compared to Renesis is HUGE. Just the cost factor alone is outrageous.
You know...sometimes, I think Mazda could have done a better job if they would have slapped a boosted inline 4 in this car. Maybe a little 1.8T?

Just the thought of sitting in this daily makes me cringe.
And TBH, my good buddy had a pretty highly modified 04' GT on spray and they are not that fast. With a decent shot, cut outs, etc he was just about as fast as my buddies 04' STI with bolts (low 13's in the 1/4 IIRC). Sure they can be but then they also become even worse to drive if you can imagine that.
The current gen is way better (except the interior) and the new gen will have IRS. I have hope that the new gen also gets a SVO version with a EcoBoost.

I know man...i took a MAJOR loss on the interior. I ******* loved that interior!!! I did get some Corbeau's, though. Pretty comfortable and it shaved 46 pounds off the heavy *** electric leather bench seats (seriously the shittiest thing ford did with this car was put in these shitty seats)
But yeah, they arent too quick. Sorta heavy and the Solid rear axle sucks (I will be doing a Tri-link setup with some MM coilovers, LCA's etc. to help it out).
I cant wait to see a mustang with ecoboost

Yeah I have been in my buddies when it got squirrelly and we almost crashed actually but he is a police officer and driving instructor so he put his skills to work and pulled of an awesome recovery,
For me cars are about overall feel. I have considered getting something else and I have driven quite a few cars and most were way faster than the 8 but honestly the only cars that excite me that I can afford are the NSX and Cayman. But even then I will probably keep my 8, I just can't see it going to anyone else or getting parted out. I tend to keep the cars I get attached too a long time.

**** scott if I had your 8 i wouldnt trade it for the world man, seriously. I took a major loss (financial and emotional) on getting rid of my RX and I sort have wish I never did...but beggars cant be choosers i guess.
The cabin noise is awful. I mean i have headers and x-pipe and borlas but **** man...its ear-blistering. Im gunna run down home depot and grab some sound insulation and lay the **** out of it all over the trunk and where the rear bench seat was (just removed it yesterday...again saved like 37 pounds.

The RX8 does have some of that insanely additive-miata-like handling magic that makes it so great to drive. Aided by the also very addictive feel of the rotary power (but little torque) - the smooth and effortless way it revs, the RX8 makes one hell of a fun car. One that isn't easy to beat in terms of how addictive it can be. Plus 2002 wasn't the best year for mustang suspension, but I do believe that generation can be modded and made much better if you want to.
Congrats on the new car, sorry that it's not up to your standards. Hopefully you can get back to driving something you like soon!

Its an insanely fun car to drive! but yeah the solid rear axle isnt worth **** unless your launching it all day. i will prob end up doing torque arm, panhard bar, lca's with spherical bushings, coilovers, etc...
i think when i have the suspension done i will MUCH happier. many mustang owners say they fell in love as soon as they put the panhard bar on so hopefully it works out. i just know it wont be anywhere near the quality of the RX!!!

I think if I had a stock/near stock RX-8 and my Evo it would be the best of both worlds. A comfortable great handling slow cruiser and a gutted big power race car. If I bought another RX-8 my wife might murder me though.

Yeah, I will likely keep it, there is no point selling it or trading it in, because I would not get much more for it than if it were bone stock despite it's immaculate condition. Parting out would be too depressing, I would rather give the parts to deserving people honestly.
I don't have a wife anymore so I do what I want My son just graduated and will be leaving for the Navy soon so I figure in four years when my daughter is off to college then I will try and pull the trigger on a Cayman or used 911.

Honestly I would say to just hang onto the RX-8 and get something else as well if/when you can afford it. The loss in parting out/selling and losing some of the nice things about the car are annoying. I lost my *** selling my RX-8, but I was just so sick of it that I wanted to literally burn it to the ground at that point. Realistically I should have just reverted it to nearly stock and kept it as a daily driver. Value for money is hard to ignore with the RX-8, because you get 4 usable seats, RWD, manual, and great handling for very little money. The depreciation is insane on them, so used versions are half the cost of a comparable chassis (like a BRZ).

I would never DD an 8....just for the simple fact that I have snow here in PA like 4 months out the year and salt ******* ruins any car out here. But you have an evo, awd for days!!!!!

You might as well go baller-status and go nostalgic and get that NSX K24 cant be beaten.
