if you want to live ... replace it.

Warranty or not, it really depends on how old the tire is and how "good" you're in talking.

Bah, I already got the local tech guy to order a replacement. If it happens again, I'll try it.

That happened to me on my MKZ Lincoln when I hit a pot hole a few months ago. I had to replace the tire. I called the tire manufacturer and they directed me to one of their dealers near me. I got warranty coverage even though it was not covered for accidents. I got the new tire for less than half price. I was pleasantly surprised after expecting to pay full price.

Well, the warranty thing didn't work. Dunlop is a stickler to their "Road Hazard" disclaimer on the warranty =\

There goes 300 bucks.

Don't complain

Would ya rather have it suddenly explode on you on the highway going 70mph with heavy rains and winds with a couple trucks near you? Hehe

The dunlop 8090s are 280 on tirerack, cheapest i found was around 230/240. Shipping (to me anyways) would have racked up another 10-15 bucks, shop install will be the rest of the charge.

I can't install it myself, so I'll definitely trust the shop on that part.. But it IS that expensive.

Bulges like that sometimes occur spontaneously, as a manufacturing defect. I've had that happen a couple of times over the years. A good tire technician should be able to decide if it's a defect or related to your previous flat.

If you can, a photo of that spot after the tire is demounted would be interesting. The change in shape is usually much more spectacular after the air is out.

well judging from the curb rash that is on the wheel right above the bubble.... looks like rubbed something the wrong way, usually sidewall bubbles just dont appear out of the blue like that

I'll try to do one better and keep the damn tire. But pics will follow upon changing.

Read what I wrote before; there was a flat, the rash occured when I pulled over and misjudged due to the tire being flat. I would highly assume the damage to the sidewall occurred from driving on it, not from rubbing on the sidewalk. It's unfortunate as I didn't have a choice since it was flat.

Yes sir, but that's the price for them runflats. After the entire set wears out, I'm just gonna get a spare wheel+tire and run non-runflats.

Do you mean the Mazda spare tire in the trunk or a spare tire in the garage? The spare tire in the trunk pretty much eats up all the trunk space. I wouldn't bother with a spare tire in the trunk since you live in a place where tow trucks are easily found.

Dunno yet, but I don't use my trunk space for much anyways. I didn't get this car looking for trunk space

Hmm.. last I checked runflats allow you to drive on a flat tire right?

The kit in the trunk contains everything you need to drive 30-60 miles on a flat, not counting the fact you have Mazda RoadSide Assistance for 3 years I think, for free?

Soo I guess my point is.. runflats are a bit of a moot point on an RX8..

The Dunlop 8090 runflats are supposedly rated for 20 miles after a puncture (they stay inflated for 20 miles at 60mph). The kit in the trunk (which I don't have, and which will ruin your tire anwyays), will added to that. Dunno if the kit will work on anything but runflats.

However, mine went completely flat in a pretty quick time, I'm guessing to a larger sized puncture than rated, and so I had to ride it while it was completely flat. That's where I assume the sidewall damage came from.
