What were you driving? A Chevy vega, a ford Feista, Kia rio or a Dodge Viper with no gas? The driver can make a big difference unless you were driver the 1st 3 or unless the Viper got gas in it.

Just because you see an RX-8 doesn't mean it's a stock version. He could have easily had upgrades as well.
I would think that your Mustang would outrace a standard RX-8 in a drag race. But in a windy road course, the 8 would out corner you enough to make up ground and probably have a better time.

I was J/K when I said that I got beat by an RX8. However my friend came into town that I hadn't seen in awhile & when he pulled up he was in an 8. It was a very sweet *** 8 too. He had some mods done to it but really not sure what they were. He wanted to race just to see how it would do. So we raced & it wasn't even close. On the other hand I drove his 8 pretty much all weekend & I have to say that it is a very fun car to drive. So even though it wasn't fast to me it was very fun to drive. I only wish he would have stayed longer so that I could drive it more. Plus I didn't have to use any of my gas. HaHa......

All i can say is NITROUS. Just go out and drop $1000 on a ZEX setup (kit/remote bottle opener/labor) as well as get street clutch, midpipe/supercat, cat back and good tires. With this setup and some practice, you should be able to smack around the neighborhood WRX, Stang, 350z, g35 crowd...not to mention the always popular Honda ****
....and yes i DO know from experience as i have this setup and have been out slapping them since.

If he didn't have FI, then none of his mods really mattered.

Doesnt matter what mods they had. Fri Guy, without FI on the 8, you will always feel this way when comparing the 8 and the stang. When it comes down to it, for someone use to driving a car that peaks at 5000-5500 rpms (high torque) like the Stang GT, an 8 with no FI will always "seem" slow to them. They are just not use to feeling actual HP at high rpms rather than high torque from low to mid rpms. Fri Guy is just saying the car felt slow to him, and he is absolutely right. If anyone here were to drive the GT for a week, then switch to the 8, it would feel same way. Its a whole diff type of power. Now, driving an 8 with FI and launch "know-how", he would feel differently.
