i agree with reliability, but the '4 real doors' is not a flaw; its a different design, just like the low torque of the rotary. some may view that as a flaw, while others prefer the smoothness it provides with the 'deceptive agility' that goes along with it as the RPMs rise. rattles are from car to car, how you treat it. the IS is brand new, so you can't really judge if, when & where it might have rattle issues.

also, is AWD really a pro or con? most would argue that, while AWD may provide better traction, RWD is more suitable to a front engine sports car.

finally, are you sure about service? i know lexus is about as sound as they come in terms of reliability, but as i have experienced with our land cruiser (toyota, close enough, right?), that doesn't mean that the service is held at the same standard. just my experience.

 

Congrats on the new purchase. I was looking at the is350 earlier. It is a great car, and although I was thinking about switching before, I don't think I can do it. Too different from the 8. But yeah, you should enjoy the 250. I'm sure there will be an aftermarket for it some day. Good luck!

 

Just for the record junior, I have two grown kids who are doing well in their lives and one of the reasons is despite the fact that I could have given them pretty much anything they wanted I did not do that. Instead I taught them how to get where they wanted to go and what it takes to succeed. I'm not going to get into net worth but I assure you I have the means to do pretty much whatever I want for whomever I want. I retired at 45 and work on the business opportunities and community things I want to do. Sorry if I ruffled your young feathers but instead of getting annoyed, go out and do something on your own instead of living off what your parents have accomplished. It is the purest form of freedom there is. If believing that makes me a ***** in your eyes, so be it.

 

I agree with stickman...you really shouldn't rest on the laurels of your parents.

I also agree with zaglo...RWD vs AWD is a matter of preference. I prefer AWD for my SUV and larger sedans, but my sports cars are RWD. Period.

Hey I like the new IS line, but I have one question for you. If you're as wealthy as you try to make yourself sound, why didn't you get the IS350? I'll be honest with you, I own everything I have because I am self made, my parents did little to no contributing to it. I'm 25 years old, and since I was 18 have worked my *** off, in the military, college, and in my current career. And to be totally honest, I think the money it takes to buy an IS250 AWD is chump change buddy. So get off your high horse.

As for service, Lexus kicks Mazda's ***. No question. Both of my parents have owned Lexus' in the past and it is rediculous what they go through to make you happy. At Mazda, you never get a loaner car, transportation anywhere ("the shuttle doesn't run on Saturdays"), etc. Granted, this varies by dealer but every year they have rankings by J.D. Power and Lexus is #1 4 or 5 years running. Example: My mom gets a nail in her LX470 tire. The Lexus place fixes it for free and washes the car all within about an hour. I take my car to the Mazda place, they charge me $277 for a new tire and it takes all damn day, after they put the wrong tire on first. My dad has a Jaguar. His tire went flat one day. Jaguar came right then when he called them, towed the car, fixed the flat, and washed his car while they took him back to his office. They called him when it was done. When you get anything done at Mazda you have to call them and ask what's going on. Not a big deal, but them calling you is definetely the better situation.

As for why he got a 250, probably because it comes in a manual. He seemed to include that on his description of the car, so it must be an important thing to him.

 

I think the IS250 comes with stick, the IS350 only auto if I'm not mistaken. And the lighter weight of the IS250 likely makes it a better handler, if that's what he got.

Several different companies over a 25 year period. Finished up as a Senior Vice President with Cigna. Made good money at the job but also invested well in real estate over the years and was a partner in a real estate brokerage and owner of pet care businesses. It is very unlikely you will become wealthy just working for a company, you vastly improve your chances by establishing your own investments and businesses. My work in the corporate world was a means to an end. The most important thing is to have a passion for what you do and have some fun doing it.

Raptor theres a reason why I'm going NYU for my MBA.... I doubt i'll have a rude awakening, thats why my parents set up a trust fund for me and my older brother, and (saying this in the nicest way) its enough for me to live very comfortable for the rest of my life...

so everyone just drop the whole financial thing ok, I just wanted to see your opinions on the IS250... Generally, that's all true, however, you are paying for the level of service you are receiving. I have owned Lexus products since 1999 and they are great products but just don't ever forget that it is a Toyota with an up-market brand and dealer network. Personally, I don't care about the smiling receptionist, the shirt & tie service advisors, the lunch buffet or the wi-fi in the waiting room. I do care that every time I bring the car in for any work that is out-of-warranty they try to sell every superfluous, overcharged service imaginable. "Rotate the air? Change the headlight fluid today, Mr. Beachdog?" Oh, and by the way, their service techs aren't any better at diagnostics than any other dealer. If the computer scan doesn't tell them what's wrong they go on a high-priced parts-replacing rampage.

 

Sounds like you (or your parents) could afford to keep the 8 and get the Lexus as well...

anyway, im sorry you felt that the rx8 need attention all the time............other than when I am working on the car (adding parts, not fixing it) i just drive it to/from work, out with friends, ect.

I dont spend any extra time on the car, since the only thing I need to do is add oil, and I do that while the gas is pumping.....so im not spending time I could really be doing anything else on the car.

There is the normal matinence that the car (and any car) needs, such as oil changes, ect......i choose to do that myself, I enjoy it, but I could drop the car off on sat mornings and pick it up sat after noon, my dealer will give me a rental car, but I just have my girlfriend give me a ride since we go out on sat anyway. So again, it wouldnt eat up any more time than needing to take a lexus to the dealer......so im not sure why you feel it takes up so much time, I would guess your turbo car needs a little more attention.....but that wouldnt be any different than if you turbo the IS250.

Enjoy the car, I was looking at the IS350 when I was shopping around...liked the car (as well as the older IS300) but didnt want to deal with the manual, and missed the power in the 250.

Anyway, enjoy it, and Im sure ill see you on some of the toyota foums.
