These statistics are a collection of bad teenage drivers and good teenage drivers. There are obviously more bad teenage drivers and therefore you would assume that he is one as well. There are always exception that is why its a statistic. If all teenagers were bad drivers then it would just be a fact. My first car was actually a neon old ugly ugly car(got it when i was 16). Unfortunately a lady that was about in her mid 30's ran a red light and hit me while on my way to work. The car was damaged out by the insurance company so I received an awesome 95 camaro z28. Car was super fast and to be honest I raced not alot but maybe a few times but only in a deserted country area were very few ppl lived(literally corn and cotto were grown there). Honestly who hasn't gunned every once an a while. At 20 years old which I am now I received my 05 WWP Rx8 which i extremely love. I now do my racing on a track with my sport car club. I have never received a ticket, never caused an accident. I am going to college full time, I pay for my car with my part time job, I do volunteer work, I am involved in many on campus organizations and I keep my grades up to of course keep my scholarship. He seems responsible enough and has his mind set so no reason to continuously bash him. Good luck to you man. And btw this addiction is great I read these forums continuously on my phone and on my pc on my free time. Even used a few DIY's here..so big thank you to this forum!

I am another teen owner on this forum, and i have to say that i am embarrassed of some of the ignorance others my age have shown. The RX-8 is a fast enough car for anyone who has only had the ability to drive for a couple of years. I don't know what you other guys my age consider fast, but the RX8 certainly gets the job done. Its not about how fast the car is. Its about being responsible and knowing your own limits. Beating another car to the next stop light isn't going to make you a hero. Be smart. Its a privilege for anyone to drive this car. Especially a teenager.

Got the car when I was 19, I would only pay for the car, no insurance. Never had any accidents or speeding tickets until recently.. Won't say I didn't race or show off.. Just know your limits and you'll be fine. The only downfall right now is.. Gas. I remember back when I just got the car, I would only pay about $30ish for a full tank premium. .. Now $30 doesn't even get to half tank.. It sucks.

Have you considered '00 - '06 eclipse GT? i just parted with mine to buy the 8. With K&N short ram and downpipe I regularly ran 14.8 in the 1/4. The exhaust note is FANTASTIC, esp if you open it up with an aftermarket muffler. The gearbox, I would say, is as smooth if not smoother than the 8. It's reliable, low maintenance and easy to work on. Best of all, i was getting 25 city /30 hwy mpg.

Most importantly, you can get a newer one fully loaded with in the price range you're talking about.

Looking back, I'm glad I had turd-mobiles before I got my RX-8 at 21. There are too many other things to learn about driving - no need to add on the temptation to drive like an idiot.

I speak from statistics, grown ups use statistics. Do you know what a St-uh-tis-tick is? It's where YOU, and people in YOUR AGE GROUP and GENDER category, drive up each others INSURANCE PRICES because you get into MORE WRECKS and are more **** to filing INSURANCE CLAIMS.
Hmmm, from what you posted, you aren't speaking from statistics. And no, "grown ups" don't use statistics. Everyone uses some bulls*** made up statistics hoping idiots will believe them. Tell me if this sounds like statistics to you:

Ditto. Well >>I hope<< he gets a RX-8, drives it like a 16 year old, then smacks into a Bimmer 7 series and ruins his car. Or something along those lines, like a minivan plowing into his rear and pushing him into oncoming traffic at a red light.
But whatever. I'm 16, I don't know what statistics are, right?

On topic: As you have all pointed out valid points, I might consider buying another car and do some adding onto it. I will get an 8 with my military signing bonus. Thanks for helping me!

I don't see anyone crying on here... except you. But of course, what was I thinking by trying to start a conversation and express my opinons on a forum site? Man, us 16 year olds these days, eh?

And my sentra needs too much work to add a $4,000 turbo onto it...

Forget it

An RX8 for a teenager. Believe me, you have better things to do with your money. All you need is a car to get from A to B at minimum cost. I suggest staying with what you have. Ideally you need a small 4 cylinger Jap car getting no worse that 8l/100km. The RX8 will use at least 12. Have a look at the cost of insurance and tyres. In Australia, 4 tyres costs close to $2,000. I suggest you start saving for your first home - fancy cars should be low priority.

Good job on creating a loaded question, of course that post didn't have anything but my opinion, glad you chose that one instead of the FACTS that male teens are more likely to file claims and get in wrecks. And yea, you may know what statistics are but you still fail to understand you are part of a very negative statistic which causes your INSURANCE RATES to be through the roof. You are so naive to think the insurance company will meet with you and suddenly say, "well oh my goodness young sir you have a good head on your shoulders, and we believe you will treat your car better than all the other people your age, so we will give you insurance for 10% the regular price!" Tell me, you think that will happen? No. Because insurance companies, like myself, are going off STATS. So yes, you naive little twerp, "grown ups" do go off of stats. RADIO stats, TV Program stats, INSURANCE CLAIM STATS, it's part of OUR daily lives, something you obviously can't comprehend.

You have to get away from the mindset that this is like any car you are probably familiar. It isnt a Honda, an old muscle car, or Sentra. This is a car that if there is something wrong with it, it is NOT a quick trip to autozone to fix. Its alot more involved, and alot more expensive then your current car. It isnt just the obvioous expenses. I agree with Jedi, you should seriously reconsider buying the car till after school. We all appreciate the interest in the car, and we would happily suggest it for you in a few years, or in the very very least sit in front of your computer for a few days and read the stickies and major posts on this site. The information available on the site is incredible, just filter out some of the "opinions" about peoples character.

My thoughts exactly, but with emphasis on inexperience driving and that it shouldn't be his first car.

You're clearly a cocky 16 year old, and an attitude like that can quickly turn a sports car into a loaded weapon. I'm sure you think all these old people are just "hatin'," but the fact is we've all been there, we know the insurance statistics, and we've seen the way you're acting. Trust me, don't bother, you're not ready for the responsibility. You'll understand later in life, just stick with the Sentra and keep that money in the bank. You'll be happy you did.

Am I the only one here who doesn't find him to be cocky?
