Gas Tank Capacity," first half " VS " second half ".
Hi.
I want to ask ( assuming someone tried to find out this capacity before me ) if any RX8' ers have found out what is the capacity in gallons of the 1st half vs the 2nd half.
Tanks are not symetrical, usualy at least.
Thanks.

On my car the 1st quarter holds about 2.5-3gallons, the second quarter 4.6gallons. the second half tank holds the rest. Watch the cars gas gauge and gallons on the pump as you fill up. The guage is operational with the ignition on.

Thanks Raoddemon.
Today I filled my gas tank. All I had left was one quarter tank ( very last Q ).
I filled the tank with 11.926 gallons. That leaves roughly 12 gallons for the rest of the tank.
That means I had 3 gallons in the last quarter of the gas tank.
Next time I will fill up the tank when all I have left is 3 quarters of the tank, that is to say, only one quart ( very 1st quart ) used up.
That will give me the capacity of the very 1st quart.
Later on I will fill the tank up when all I have left is 1/2 the tank. That will tell me how much gas enters and fills the top 1/2 of the tank. Minus the 1st quarter already determined, that will tell me the numbers for the 1st half, and each the 1st and 2nd quarter.
Then, I will add 1st, 2nd and 4th quarters ( previously determined ) and subtract that number form the total number of gallons capacity the car has ( 15.9 ) to determine the capacity for the 3rd quarter.
That will help monitor consumption.
So far, 4th quater : 3g
Jaime.

My first 1/4 falls off really quick and then the last 1/4 falls off equally as quick (if not quicker).
Most other cars I had (including the Mazdas) when the tank is completely full it stays at the full mark for dozens of miles before it starts dropping. Not my 8. I've seen it dip below the full line before I get home straight from the pump. Then is usually slows once it drops to the the 3/4 mark.
When my light comes on I usually pump 13.5 to 13.9 gallons in to fill up.
On a side note: On the road trip I took at xmas i hit a range of about 322 miles and it still had a few sips left in her! That would be about 23 mpg (with long stretches of 80+ mph). Everyday in town driving I don't even pay attention.

I've been able to pump 14.5 gallons into the car before. I was worried sick by the time I pulled into a gas station; was on a road trip on a familar road, and I thought I knew where the next gas pump was so I was going to stop there to fill up. It was closed, and I had to travel almost 25 miles with the low fuel light on, and the gauge reading at "E".

Cool information, thanks.
My RX8 is an 07. It has 12000 plus miles. Love every part of it. The best purchase ever, once a rotor head, the only engine that will give me peace of mind is a rotary engine!
Yes, I have to revise that math, the decimals confused me. Thanks for the holler Roaddemon.
15.9g full tank. Substract 11.926g ( what went in when filling up the tank at 1/4th left ) = 3.974g
Rounding up numbers , the tank fills up with 16 gallons (@ 15.9g ).
The tank took in roughly 12 gallons (@ 11.926G ), so the capacity for the last quarter is roughly 4 gallons ( @ 3.974 g ).
My next test is filling the tank up after using only the first quarter.
Let's see. I understand the last half gallon is probably beyond use , either because the pump will not be able to function properly under such small amount of gas spread through the bottom of the tank , or else, because only under extreme emergency any of us would drive the car that far w/o refilling.

i have found that the yellow light goes on with 2.5 gallons of fuel in the tank..
that is what i find helpful..
and i have put in 15.9 gal in my tank before.. maybe more than once..
and needed a liter of gas to get it to the station.. dont try this at home.. fla is flat, flat is good for taking chances with gas!!!!!

In fact mine comes on at 1/8 tank and I can get another 80 km (50m) easy before I'm walking .

wow you guys get some high numbers on average i get about 200 miles per full tank and on the last road trip i went on i made it about 240 and almost ended up walking to the gas station. car has 16000 miles on it. I am thinking i am going to change my plugs and start using some injector cleaner as the previous owner (female) used to drive it to canada and probably didn't drive it correctly after looking at all the data on this site.
i should also note that i have been driving it recently w/ mazdas gimp milage speeds and shift before 3k still 200 miles per tank.
i make regular habbits of redlining it daily (after warm)

i've driven the car to way below the E line before. It ran about 25 miles after the light came on and when i filled up it to the top the pump only read 13.5 gallons which is the most i've ever filled up
