gas price/sunroof/color
A few quick questions -
1. How high would gas prices need to go before you would not consider getting a new rx8 or purchasing the one you have if prices were $3.xx per gallon? Not trying to say anything bad about the rx8 and indeed the low mpg is a price paid for having such a sports car but still...when your at the pump and shelling out the money I think the question could come to mind. Wonder if a redesign in 09 would improve the mpg a rotory engine delivers?
2. Sunroof -
don't use them much, most recent car does not have it, yet still I miss not having one. So, given the limited head room in a rx8 to begin with would a sunroof get a yes or no vote in your book? I'm 5'10" tall. In a brief ride with a sunroof I only recall that it was a small sunroof (ok maybe I'm not being fair since I'm remembering my rx7 sunroof).
3. Color -
so what is it with the rx8 color for 2007. Dealer sent me an email for $21,684 for a 2007 'phantom blue mc' which I'm sure is a base mt model with appearance package (would not want the package especially if it addes the rear spoiler). I figure this must be the stormy blue color (same as is on a mx5 07 model correct?). I do like the winning blue and saw it on a used one at the lot sunday but all windows (except front) were tinted so darn darn (even the back one) that I won't want that car....not safe at night with that darn a tint I feel. If phantom blue is the same as the stormy blue then not a bad color though true be told I'm not into shifting with a stick the live long day in a sports car in the county I live in. Maybe in the rolling hills in NC or north Georgia...there a stick would be fun I would think.
Yes I know it is not a sports car without the gear shift. What can I say, I feel mazda did a discent enough job with the auto shifter in my mx5 07 model.
Now if the dealer just won't screw me on the trade-in but we all know that answer to that already don't we

16mpg here..sometimes.
i don't mind it, but if you're gonna have one at least have it larger.
lightning yellow is simply the best colour! also white.

1. This car was not about the gas in my mind. Cheap/expensive-good/bad whatever. I would still buy it!!!!
2. I dont like sunroofs.
3. Not sure what the question is here, but I still would like to take this opportunity to say . . . . WhiteWater Pearl is the best color

1. Gas is no problem. Just one of those things to accept. Like not being able to fit a sheet of plywood or a lawn tractor in the trunk. No car does everything.
I do enjoy making fun of Prius owners. "That's all the gas you're buying? There are children starving in Texas and the Middle East!"
2. I'm not keen on sunroofs, so I got Zoomy without one. But I did test drive an 8 with a sunroof, and had no problem with headroom. I'm six feet even.
3. The 8 looks good in every color. I got Galaxy Gray because my fashion consultant considered it to be sophisticated.

1. I would've bought the RX-8 no matter what the price of gas. (But had it been rated at less than, say, 15 mpg, I might not have. I get 17-18 mpg, sometimes 20 or more.
2. 5'10"? If you're tall from the waist up, maybe pass on the sunroof. And yes, the sunroof is relatively small. I like mine, but I'm only 5'7".
3. There's no RX-8 color I've seen that I'd consider a deal breaker.

Gas is not an issue for me- plenty of cars out there that get just as bad MPG- and I have long maintained, some extra RANGE would have quashed 90% of the complainers.
I have a sunroof, and use it very often, which is strange since I've owned two cars with a roof before, and barely did. The "tilt-up" is useful too- pulls more air through the vents when opened.

I wanted an 8 no matter what. I guess if MPG had been listed as less than 15 I would have had to think much harder. I get 16 MPG EVERY time unless I am all highway.
I like sunroofs, but the 8 glass is really small. I'm 5'5 so of course it doesn't effect my headroom and I'd rather have one then not. If you want leather though you've got no choice, it comes as a package...
Color is all about your own preference. Don't listen to anyone else.

1. Gas price- doesnt matter. If I got a BMW 335 instead, my mpg would be, what 5 better? Whoop-dee-doo. I'll just drive less.
2. Sunroof- I like it. Do you? If you do, get it. Im 5'9" and I do not "bang" my head.
3. Color- The color for 2007 is black.

I don't really care about gas prices I fill up about every 2 weeks. If gas goes up by $1 that would be an extra $30 per month. It's not enough to worry about.
I love my sunroof. Both my husband and I fit in the car. I'm 5'2" and he's 6'3". His head has about 1/2" of clearance.
When I bought my car, I had lots of choices. Red was the only one that made my heart race when I looked at it. You have to fall in love with your car.

Sunroof is a must for me. It was a dealbreaker if I couldn't get one. Leather was also a must.
My mileage is abhorrent right now. I've only done one fill up, so I am waiting till the next one to measure it since I didn't start the trip counter last time. However, I am looking at having gone only 42 miles and the gas gauge is down at the first bold line (I wouldn't say quarter tank since there are 2-3 more divisions in the middle two main divisions than on the "full" and "empty" divisions.
Right now I'm not worried about gas prices. I'm also not worried if I start commuting a longer distance to work - gas mileage should only improve in that case.
However, the bigger question is, are rising gas prices justified right now?

1. I consistently get 17-18 mpg. Most fuel effecient vehicle I've ever owned, so no complaints here. I don't want to spoil myself with an economy car for that reason.
2. I am 6'1" and have no issues with the sunroof. My brother is 6'4" and he was very close to the roof, but still not hitting it. I love the way it looks open also. If I got another one I would definitely get a GT again with the sunroof and leather.
3. I love the Winning Blue. By far the best blue they've used on the RX-8. Yellow and Black are also very good looking colors on it.

1. I regularly get 20+ mpg during my commute which is mostly freeway, but it's the San Francisco bay area where traffic jams are commonplace. I'm sure I could hit 23-24 when driving without those. So no, no fuel issue here. In the "mostly city" mode, I still get about 17 - 18 mpg.
2. I don't care for sunroofs; besides, with the 8 it was out of the question because I'm 6' 6". With 5' 10", you won't have a problem unless you're all torso
3. Color? If I'd buy a new one, the copper red or stormy blue would be my choice. None of those were available when I got mine.

1. i'm ok with the mpg's, but i hate the gas prices. they jumped about 25 to 30 cents the past couple weeks!! i'm already looking into getting a honda fit as my second car - no way i'm giving up the 8 but it would be nice to have a fuel-saving choice in the garage for short trips around the city!

1. Brand new RX8s seem to get terrible mileage, so be prepared for 12-13 mpg! Several thousand break in miles seem to alleviate the problem. I bought mine in Jan '06 (2004 GT) used with 25,xxx miles so I avoided that. I normally get about 19-20 mpg with mixed driving.
2. I have a sunroof and wouldn't have an RX8 without one. I'm 5'11" and don't have any issues with clearance.
3. Color is a personal choice. I have Sunlight Silver, but probably wouldn't recommend it. SUVs have a bad habit of turning left in front of me. I think the pearl white exteriors with the red/black leather interiors are the best combination. OK, that is gonna cost you some money, but it looks great!

'cuz I don't like it when my head rubs on the headliner. I tried a car with a sunroof before buying and it just wasn't comfortable. If I always have to keep the inner slide open, that's not acceptable. There are situations when I would want to close that slider (like when the sun is beating down on the top of my head and such).
