Not to mention its actually MANUAL and you can shift yourself, and you have to use the clutch.

the only "sensible" way to make the rotary bigger than 4 rotors is to bank multiple engines and link them in some way to a single drive shaft
That said the rx-8 may be left in production and an rx-7 successor created (probably called rx-9), both cars would probably get the 16x and they don't exactly compete for the same market. The 8 is a GT car and the 9 would probably be a hardcore sports car to rival the S2000. No sense in discontinuing the 8 when they have all the tooling to make it and the 16x probably fits in it anyway.
Oh, and being able to run on hydrogen is sweet when you can switch to gas easily, just use gas for your fun drives, they switch to H2 for cruising on the highway at constant speed, you don't need more than 100 horses then
