Fuel: Question for Moderators

Question regarding fuel for moderators...Is the ethanol in the fuel these days going to damage the seals in the rotary engine? I have been advised by outboard mechanics that it is doing damage to these fragile engines(Outboard motors on Boats). The advice was to add MMO(Marvel Oil) to the fuel so the fine components are not damaged. Any input is appreciated. I have not asked my dealer or Mazda regarding this question and do not mean to cause any alarm...thanks. I've always checked out this site before going anywhere else.

Question Fuel for Moderators.....

This moderator uses 40% Ethanol from my local Stoli station!

...and 5W20 from Bacardi!!

S

-seriously, up to 10% ethanol is OK. NO Methanol. ....and I'd be more worried about the deposits the MMO would cause, it is not designed as a deposit-free upper cylinder lube - maybe use Lucas UCL, made for the job, and cleaner.

Depending on where you live, there's a chance you already have some ethanol in your fuel. By the end of the year that will hold true anywhere in the U.S. Actually I see you are in NY. The north east and the gulf coast are 2 areas that do not currently use ethanol in fuel. They are changing that right now though.

Typically 10% is about the maximum you should be using. This is only due to tuning though. If you could retune it there is no reason why it wouldn't run on E85. The ecu just isn't set up to allow that right now.
