whats the deal with 2 stroke oil? does seafoam hurt it?

Just last week I got my new reman engine. These techs at Hempstead Mazda returned me car with clogged injectors and plenty of other bugs to worry about.

Last weekend I was driving home and this 1999 black camero was taunting with me like it was joke. In mind I said, "***** is that all you got" so I slammed the gas while driving in 2nd gear and all I was doin' was blowing out bubbles. Now with my old cracked engine I would've ripped off his side mirrors and sold it back to him.

I just bought new batteries, coils, spark plugs, and wires at Mazda. I spoke with this guy where I met at Smoking Joes' rotary shop and he told me to use Techron Concentrate Plus found at your local Pep Boys or Autozone shop.

I used the largest bottle of Techron additive in my car and man was there a difference..........

Tomorrow I will get back with some more results with this Techron stuff..

you might try to find some b&g 44k. it is the king of the hill in fuel injector and engine cleaners.

i was using lucas for a while, bout to pour some bg44 in the next tank to clean it out a bit

Personally, I wouldn't use use too much or too often. I suspect it can diminish the internal lubrication of the combustion chambers on rotaries. Perhpas better to use a really good detergent gas like Shell V-Power on a constant basis. Or maybe some lubricious cleaner premix, like FP+. I'm no expert, and perhaps a little too cautious, so take it for what it's worth.

i was wondering the same thing... Our cars can "de-carbon" themselves pretty efficiently as it is. With as much stress there is on keeping up with the oil levels so that the seals stay lubed, why would you want to clean that lube out? Please don't tell me, "Well, to get the carbon out!" because that's why we run it up to 9k rpm in 2nd and 3rd gear!

i imagine detergents and what-not aren't the best things for rotary engines considering what i just wrote but i am newer to the engine so if the more truly experienced can provide a straight fwd, honest answer to all of this, please do!

i find every 12 to 15 k miles.. and i use fp +. working on a solution to get the good stuff upstream from the apv ports to get them clean.

I tried looking for b&g 44k at the nearest Pep boys and Autozone....no luck. However I did use my second shot of Techron Plus and my baby's kicking a lot better now.


Now I thought the internal lubrication replenishes as long as the oil level is accurate. If someone can help me understand this better that would be great!

But my understanding is that some of the stronger solvents can harm the oil films. There was a guy who used Techron once a month and his engine failed. Cause & effect, who knows, but I'm cautious about this. I like Jax's idea of the cyclohexanone in FP+ emulsifying carbon into a graphite lubricant, ie, turning a negative into a positive. Like I say, I'm no expert, just trying to understand and pass along what some of the really smart guys around here are saying.

Wow that sucks. Techron advertises that your suppose to only use it every 3,000 miles or else your asking for trouble! I can't believe this guy used it every month that sucks. However I like this idea with this FP+ stuff I'm going to purchase this soon. How often can you use FP+ stuff is it every 3,000 or whenever you feel like it I suppose?

+1 on the 44K. I put a can in at each oil change. Its a little pricey but a good product.

The standard dose is 1 oz per 10 gallons of gas with every fill-up. I mix it with my Idemitsu premix.

Well after my second shot of Techron the engine revs better without the peeping sound. However, when I rev it doesn't doesn't the same....like the mouth of my exhaust pipes are covered. Also when I launch in first gear it still doesn't react as well as it should. I notice once I speed past 4500 rpms it starts to struggle. It doesn't pick up more speed like my old engine. Should I replace all 6 injectors?

Check out bob is the oil guy forums online for more information about additives and Lube Control. Those who use FP definitely have positives for it. I'm hoping it'll help keep the carbon issues to a minimum.

Thanks, UL, do you have a link to Shell saying that more frequent use of Techron is asking for trouble? Or is that your interpretation?

Have you taken it back to the garage to be looked at?

If it is a new reman engine you shouldn't be looking for a bottle to make things right.

Thanks for your question I've been away too long.

To answer your question. I did! My tech explained to me it's my 6 injectors not working properly. At this point I'm not sure if I should get new injectors or have my guy administer the problem. What would you consider at this point?

Actually! I read that caution on the side of the bottle. No i don't have a link to shell. However, my tech explained to it's not good to use it more than recommend.
