Finally... rotary-powered again...

Just saying hello... I've lurked for a while around here, but finally bought a new RX-8 yesterday. Got the Shinka with everything except SatNav. So, now my name on here makes sense.... this is my fifth new RX. Can't wait to pick it up tomorrow!

Happy rotoring!

Congrats on your new baby. :-)

MT or AT Shinka?

I've had mine for a couple of weeks now and I *love* it.

Hmmmm since you asked...

81 Rx-7 GS, Stardust blue
83 Rx-7 Limited Edition, Chateau silver
85 Rx-7 GSL-SE, Ocean Blue
88 RX-7 SE, Noble white

The 81 was my first car purchase after college. It and all the others were fun and reliable cars. I'm hoping the 8 is as good a car, and as good as my trusty 2000 Miata.

Oh, and definitely a manual Shinka. Now I don't have to remember if I'm driving a six-speed (Miata) or five-speed (my now-sold Mazda3)

Wow... I loved mine as well. I kinda think of the Shinka as a (finally!) replacement for the 83. Interesting too, that you're in Raleigh.. I lived there (Cary, actually) in those days. Bought the 83 at the old Coggin Mazda in Durham.

It (the 83) would have been perfect if it had a limited slip rear end.

Distinct among other 7's, with its interior and paint.

Much like the Shinka, but the Shinka

showcases performance as well.

I have toyed with the idea of having a custom leather interior

done in my Silver 8, something like ox blood red. Just because of that 83.

I bought the 83 in Blacksburg Va around 1993 it was originally from NC though,

could have been yours?

I only saw one or two more on the road.

Nice.. silver and deep red would be nice in an 8. It would be amazing if you had my old 83. I traded it at Coggin in about May 85, picking up the 85 GSL-SE. I really regretted it afterward, and only kept the 85 a short time. It was a nice car, but I really disliked the drab grey interior.

Guess I do have a thing for rotaries. I remember seeing an early R-100 at a car show in Atlanta in maybe 1970. One of thise dream-car things clicked in my head I guess. I also remember how happy I was to get back into an RX when I got my 88, even though it was a lowly SE. Hmmmm... now I'm really getting excited about picking up my Shinka. One more day to wait... Bad part is that I'll see it tonight when I go to pick up my Miata from the shop.

Thanks

I went in the dealership today to pick up my Miata and the guys were just pulling my RX-8 out of the showroom. Kinda cool! I'll pick it up tomorrow after work. It's so fun to take the bus to the dealer and drive a new car home. I'm like a little kid at Christmas. Yikes, and I'm 46 years old. Oh well.

I promised the Miata a new set of shocks and an alignment so she won't get jealous.

Nice, it seems like we keep getting more new Seattle members in recent days.... maybe we'll be able to get a good local 8 club going someday.

I had a 82 GS & a 85 GSL-SE (all Black as is my 8) I liked the feel of my 82 with the 12A better than the 85 13B. How do you feel about your past rides?

I liked the FB 12As better than the GSL-SE also. As I said, I really didn't like the grey interior, plus that car had a really noisy limited-slip diff and a crappy stereo. The 88 FC was a strange car. I never liked the looks of it, but the handling was amazing. It is apparent that a lot of the chassis design from the FC went into the Miata, with some further refinements. Now the 8 gets the benefit of all that improvement plus some of its own. Should be fantastic.

I'm such a geek. The 8 was sitting in the showroom, and I'm crawling around on the floor looking at the suspension, brakes, driveline, etc.

Geez, now I'm looking at the clock... gotta wait till 4:30....

Sounds great to me. I'm active in Puget Sound Miata CLub and would love to do some day trips in the 8. Found a fun road down from Mt St Helens to the Columbia Gorge last week in the Miata. Should be 8-friendly also.

Nice machine. I've had it only a little less than 24 hours and already love it.

Also, just pulled out some ancient info from my files. The window sticker from my 1988 FC RX-7 shows 146 hp and fuel mileage of 17 city, 24 highway. My RX-8 is 238 hp ( +/- ), 18mpg city, 24 highway. Not bad!
