Fight the haters

Every 2nd day it seems somebody here compares the RX8 to some other car; perfectly normal in such a forum. Then, and it never fails, some non 8 owners starts going off about our 8 (always the same schmucks), usually citing stats from different models in different magazines tested on different days by different drivers in different conditions etc, etc. EVERY TIME, NEVER FAILS. This isn’t so normal.

So being a motorcycle / car fanatic, I have nearly every major gear head magazine going back years. So lets play this game, but fairly. How ‘bout I look up the most reputable sources only (and largest by N. American distribution), like Road and Track, Motor Trend and Car and Driver. And how ‘bout direct comparison tests only, that way we eliminate the differences mentioned earlier.

Here are ALL the direct comparison tests that I found from these sources;

April 2003 Car and Driver; RX8 rated 1st, ahead of the G35 Coupe Brembo and 390HP Ford SVT Cobra. Notable point; its track time almost beat the Cobra, even though it has 152 fewer HP

March 2004 Motor Trend; RX8 rated 1st, ahead of the 350Z track model and revised ’04 S2000.

August 2004 Road and Track; RX8 rated 1st, again ahead of G35 Coupe.

2004/2005/2006; for 3 years running, one of Car and Drivers 10 best

So there you have it, you freak'n weirdo haters.

…was a worthwhile exercise, found some old **** too!

This will just end up in a "Flame war" man I'm tellin' ya its not going to work. Just let it be bro. Think of it like this: If you dont own the dam car then "you" or "they" are going to take smack about it. Every car has its "Good" and "Bad". NS...

Fight numbers and peoples opinions with subjective rankings and opinions. Good plan, well thought out. I applaud you.

Everyone is going to have thier own opinion about different cars. You cant make someone like or hate a car unless they want to. The test results that you posted are all valid, but they were done by people... people with opinions. On Top Gear, the RX8 ran the same track time as an M3... http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/powerlaps/page_2.shtml ... but as we all know, these cars were not tested on the same days or the same conditions. You will never be able to convince everyone that the 8 is a good car.

The thing is, I don't think anyone here thinks the 8 is anything but a good car.

Let me re-write this for you BlueEyes...

Fight incomparable numbers and the opinions of schmuks with subjective rankings and opinions of professionals. Good plan, well thought out.

Ps. BlueEyes? You a chick? Sound like one.

A professional opinion on a subjective matter is worth no more than anyone elses because it's just that, a subjective opinion.

What incomparable numbers are you talking about anyhow? 0-60, 1/4 mile, track times?

Let's petition : to get rid of the trouble makers and agitators.

Useful discussion, even if heated, can be informative and entertaining but naysayers and haters just spoil the fun for everyone.

Edit: In case you don't get it, the first line was intended as humour.

I'd like to see a list of haters.

This forum, unlike others I visit, really doesn't have anyone who trolls. Nobody comes around and says "this car sucks for all these reasons, which is why I bought my _____". What it does have are people that say "I like the Rx-8, specifically ______ and ______, but I was dissapointed in _____" and "It's a great car, but I decided to get _____ because it suits me better" Then you have owners saying "You're so full of ****, I have a different opinion and needs so you're wrong, **** off you ******" etc etc.

It often suprises me at how intolerant people here are to subjective criticisms of the 8.

How about this. We all just be satisfied with our car purchases. I prefer to look at the intangible qualities, for instance, the 8's uncanny ability to get you laid. Seriously, I was a virgin when I bought the car. Took a week and a half.

I wouldn't admit that you needed a car to get laid. It's pretty lame.

I like the 350Z but have yet to read a comparison where the 350Z beat out the RX-8. They all give it the hp advantage but the rest of the categories are owned by the RX-8.

Don't forget Consumer Reports rated it over the Z and Mustang.

Also I just saw a Gear Head comparison that liked it over the Z also.

If you're talking about 90210, I think he lives in Georgetown, Ontario not Alabama. I pretty sure, and pretty dissapointed that he's Canadian.

Which is great, because it speaks to the overall quality and performance of the 8. However 350z's are, and will continue, to sell. Obviously there are people out there who feel the 350z is a better car for them, for whatever reason. I don't see the point in getting pissed off at those reasons as so many people here like to do.

No. I love the 8.

I assumed Dominion was directing his "do you live in alabama" question to the guy that started the thread because I know there is a Georgetown in Alabama. Perhaps he wasn't though.

Anyone who remotely insults Canada is ignorant of that country. I live in Michigan, and travel to Toronto and also Vancouver every chance I get.

Canada is such an advanced and progressive country, it's amazing.
