Question Extra Keys

When we got our new (2004) RX-8, The Dealer only gave us one key.
But we still have the two Keys from our 2004 RX-8. The Valet Key dont work. But the other did.
So my question is how much is it to have them re-programed?
Thanks!

Talk to Mike, see what his bud can do for you. I think that there is a DYI on that also. I'm having the Viper remote start/alarm/keyless entry installed. Not sure if I still need the key with this setup - I'll find out Friday.

Phil's 8 - There are different kinds of bypasses for the chip in our keys. When they install the system they might use one that is programmable (won't need a key from you) or they might use one that needs a key to work. If you've got the valet key that ought to work in the module.

As for the OP, I'm confused about your post. You have one original key and two other keys from a different RX8? You can reprogram yourself if you have two keys that work. It's really easy and covered in a DIY thread somewhere (I'm too lazy to search.) Took me about 4 minutes to program my switchblade key with my two original keys.

Not sure what you mean about the valet key not working. Valet key should only start car but not work in the glovebox or trunk. IF the valet key turns in the ignition, then you should be able to program a new key yourself with your existing key and the valet key. See the DIY, it works. Otherwise you will have to go to the dealer for a new key and programming (probably around $100). Once you have two working keys, you can buy a blank online, get it cut at a locksmith and program the ECU yourself for a spare. But there is a limit in the ECU to how many key chips it will accept.

Yeah I have 2 keys from my OG RX-8 and I have 1 key for my RX-8 that I have right now.

I want to program my other 2 keys for my new 8
I was looking at the DIY and it looks like a PITA. I think I'll ask my friend Mike about it.

Literally takes like 5 minutes, I would give it a shot. I'm a little confused on what you'll do with the keys if you program them.... aren't they cut for your old car? Are you talking about the keyless entry?

Touche. You're going to have to hit up the stealership.

Still don't understand what you're going to do with keys that aren't cut for your car though.

Yeah, if it's a flip key you could get a new blank... but I'm not sure about non-flip keys.

Yo Gil, before you go to the dealer call Liberty Lock over at Sahara... they quoted me much less than dealer pricing...

You purchased the car from a mazda dealer did you not? Hell go back and hit up the salesman for a freebe - complain about only one key - I'll bet you get something.
