Congrats!

As far as getting better than advertised MPG with a Honda - I think this is fairly common. I've gotten 35mpg highway with our 05 TL, and my old neighbors got better than the EPA estimates with their CR-V. My dad has been getting great mileage with his 07 CR-V.

People seem to like to rip on Hondas, but they do know how to make a smooth, fuel-efficent piston engine.

And keep in mind our TL has 258hp and 233 lb-ft of torque. And I got that mileage when driving in the 70-75 mph range.

I have to give them credit for their transmissions too. The TL's automatic tranny shifts very alertly and quickly (and is very smooth).

S2k's interior still dates back to the 90s. That digital tach is so KITT. :D

from the 2K's that i've seen, i gotta agree...the level of knight riderism is almost unparralled. Very cool then, a lil dated now.

Congrats on the purchase. The S2K is a great car (as you already know from owning one). I've never driven one, but I what I read and hear is only ever positive.

I didn't look at the S2K before buying my 8, I've wanted a rotary RX since the FD left the US, but it sure would be nice to have a convertible top and decent MPG!

Good luck with the car.

I had an 04 s2k for about 3 years, It was a great car. The tanny is still by far one of the best that i have ever felt.

I have owned an 06 rx8 touring for about a year now. So far no complaints no problems. Had all the recall stuff done, I have no clue what flash im on right now. But other than that its been a great ride so far. It is more comfortable and practical (minus the fuel consumption) than the s2k, I have the bose option and the speakers/radio are 100 times better than in the s2000.

Both cars are amazing. I guess you just have to look at what you need the car for most. S2000 is great fun on the track and just as great on the road. But it does lack the refinement the rx8 has for daily driving practicality and comfort.

Simple solution to your problem with the shifter........get the Axial Flow Short Shifter. I upgraded mine about a month ago and I wish I did it from the moment I bought the car. The shifter / transmission feels 1000 times better. You also get the metal on metal connection when you snap into gear, so you get that "click click" feeling you're looking for. Only costs $240 too. Check it out.......http://www.axialflow.com/products.htm

The steering is fantastic in it.

I believe the MX-5 and RX-8 share the same tranny (manual), and for even better shifting the RP shorter shifter is supposed to be amazing (RP makes one for the S2000 too.).

The stock brakes are very good, and since youre used to low gas mileage the RX-8's wont come as a shock to you.

The best part of the car is the handling, if you liked the test drive just wait till you own one and can really flog it.

Regarding the lack of acceleration, I dont know, our car has had so many reflashes of the PCM it may have felt different at one time. A few mods (light flywheel) can help out some.

I believe Ive read on here the GS model (sport package in US) is arount 70llbs lighter, and greater head clearance (for helmets).

I have cloth seats and love them. 30k miles, over 2 1/2 years and they look great.
Correction: Believe it or not, the RX-8 shares the same transmission as the S2000... and yes, I bolded it for a reason.

Considering how completely different they feel; considering how completely different their ratios are; considering that they are two different car companies; and considering that the two transmissions appear quite different visually, I don't believe it.

Do you care to offer some convincing evidence of this seemingly absurd assertion that pops up in this forum from time to time?

That is just another naked assertion, without any backup. I didn't believe it in that thread, and I don't believe it in this one.

They may share the same box and many of the same parts, but the application in the S2K always feels better to me.

I had to get a new tranny (the 3 to 4 shift grinded at redline) so I'm not too pleased with its reliability, although it was covered. As a former Miata driver I thought I had shifting nirvana, but the 8 is even better - as long as the tranny is hot. If you just take it for a 20 minute drive it feels kinda notchy.

Not really but I guess I just love the RX-8 and am always annoying my friend to let me drive his for kicks.

When I say I'll be getting one ''soon'' it doesn't mean right away though, more like when I have kids:D

I know there's one guy on this forum who has an S2000 and an RX-8 and he seems extremely happy.

I just wish my S2000 had the RX-8 brakes and steering.....And that the RX-8 had the S2000's transmission and engine....

Right now I'm having aluminum steering rack bushings installed in my S2K and next week I'll be getting Hawk HP+ pads to try and make my Honda more ''RX-8'' like

anyways thanks for the info people, you're always very helpful on this forum

I used to like the miata's shifter. But now that I am used to the smooth rifle-bolt feel of the 8, jumping back into a few NC's manual felt unrefined. It is short and direct no doubt, but it didn't possess the utter smoothness than the 8's tranny exudes. I don't remember the s2k's. Part of my other life is write automotive review for regional rag....

You wish the Rx-8 had the S2k engine???? BLASPHEMY! It's ok to say you wish the RX8 had a few more ft lbs, or even a few more ponies, but to say you wish it <gasp> had a 4cyl piston engine...BLASPHEMY I TELL YOU!

I encourage you to restate/rethink your previous comment. I'll help:

"I just wish my S2000 had the RX-8 brakes and steering....And that the RX-8, with its stellar rotary, had 50 more lbs of torque."

I seem to recall back in '04 I had a publication (don't recall who published it) that said the 8 and the S2K had the same gearbox. But it appears they only have the same maker and are similar, not the same. Back then these were the only 2 production cars with CF gearbox parts.

BTW the 8 isn't so great with babies. I find that rear facing babyseats, you have to move the front passenger seat up making it tough for someone to sit there. And it's cramped for my wife when she sits behind me. And its cramped for me cuz I need to pull my seat fwd (shes 5'8"). Good thing we have another car.

all i can say is, DONT BUY IT if you dont like how slow it is. your not going to make it faster easily.

i ended up selling mine almost 3 years ago now becuase
#1 gas milage was HORRIBLE, i coulda been in a vette going faster and getting better mpg

#2 no torque got very annoying once the idea of a new car went away. mommys honda accord smoked me over and over.

#3 it was always in the damn shop. covered under warranty but still....
