Woa! Eric, I obviously touched a nerve in a previous post when I suggested that guys obsessed with “my car is faster” comments are compensating for something. Don’t sweat it man! Listen, you mentioned that you have a wife, so she is obviously ok with your teenie-peni.

Now, just you have to accept it.

It is a brillant car, but I just cannot justify the image problem associated with it and the cost to maintain it... image chewing out a set of front brake and front slicks every track day and rotor every 4 track days...
I agree, creeping up to my 30's and I have a serious issue with the boy racer image. I love both the STi and EVO but feel I'm over that phase. I considered getting such a car a few months ago, I managed to score a few test drives but, the car is just not me.

btw, usually FOBs drive those cars from where I'm at. Everytime i look into an evo/sti, it's always some skinny asian kid with glasses who don't speak a word of english driving around his underage girlfriend.

I saw one parking downtown yesterday and a guy with green, oddly spiked hair and a studded dog collar on got out of it.

I grew out of the boy racer evo age and got an 8 .. I also grew out of the drive to the max thinking once I got the 8 because there is just nowhere to go .. it's too fast for normal city driving .. i'm always running into another car, stop sign, red light .. i'm honestly evaluating if i'd have more fun driving a smaller car to the max like i always used to minus the image and looks of the 8 of course .. but rear wheel drive is a quite fun though

Having a lot of friends who have Evo's there's a lot to admire about the car but it's falling into that sedan AWD group that, at least here out west, is growing fast to the point where if you've seen one Evo you've seen them all.

Quick devils with about 280 hp off the lot turbo charged.

Still, the RX-8 offers a style, look and feel of a sports car where the Evo doesn't. Your getting a standard sedan style interior with 4 seats and all that jaz. The RX-8 has a wrap around interior with a sports car style and seats only 2. 4 if you have a small animal or something.

I used to be after an AWD platform till I discovered that they tend to drive themselves. Despite the power off the lot and some of them having a semi agressive look, it's still 4 doors of family packing fun.

You want a sports car, get an rx-8. You get a unique engine with unique attributes, as well as excellent handling. An evo is more something that my sister would drive.

My neighbor has a Renault Alliance.. I mean an EVO (I keep mixing those cars up). If I wanted a fast car with shitty looks and an even worse interior, I would have purchased an EVO as well.

Actually EVOs dosnt get challenged much at stop lights... people have mad respect for them and are scared to race them. On the otherhand When im riding in a rx8, everyone wants a piece of it...

I think that's because the RX-8 looks like a traditional sports car (i.e. - it looks fast). The Evo looks like a sedan with a giant wing and most people are just going to assume it's some sedan.

All the mitsubishi dealerships around me are closing down. I heard something about mitsu being shut down in north america. I would never buy an Evo, way to much maintenance. Very ugly cars with a real **** *** interior.

Your standard "street racer" is going to know for sure. But I think a lot of people that get "challenged" to race in the RX-8 are by random people in Mustangs, BMW's, Accords, 350Z's, G-35'z, Civics, etc.

My point is that the Evo gets respect from the people that know what it is and ignored by the people who don't. The 8 gets no respect (in a straight line anyways) from people who know what it is and big time visibility from people who have no idea what it is and think it looks fast.

I disagree with that.

Not sure how big you are but I've had adults ride in the back with no complaints and my kids fit fine. Indeed, one of the reasons I bought the 8 was the inclusion of useable back seats in a coupe-like body.

Of course the Evo is bigger and more accessible again but I think the packaging of the 8 is a great compromise considering the vast improvement in looks the 8 has over the Evo.

As for TLGP's - big deal. Some kid can spend $10K and beat you off the line. There's always someone faster. It's the complete package that does it for me.

Beyond Jim Bob in a pickup almost all the people that would consider racing someone know what an Evo is. If they don't know what an Evo is I can pretty much be assured their car isn't close to fast enough for me to waste my gas on. I've had two people try to challenge me. One was at night on the highway and was some Civic that was trying to race anyone that came up behind him, he quickly backed down and got in the middle lane when I pulled up next to him. The other was an '03+ Cobra and he kinda dupped me since he wouldn't even acknowledge me when we were at a light together. Other than that I get lots of thumbs up, waves, people wanting to talk about my car, or the ever popular stare straight ahead at all costs.

I get more people trying to race me when I drive a 4 cylinder Altima.

Yeah, I don't doubt that that's true. I guess when I think "race" I think who is going to try and show off with some speed. I rarely see ricers around actually trying to drag off the line or make it a point to come up next to another car on the highway to get its attention to race.

What I see much more often is people in anything from a Charger to an Audi S4 to a Mustang to a Tacoma trying to make subtle "points" by accelerating really hard for a few seconds here and there. I don't really think any of those random people know what an Evo is or what it really can do.

Either way, since so few people actually even know what an RX-8 is, I have a hard time believing that all those people that want to "race" are doing so because they know they can win. I think more of them just think the car looks fast and wanna see what it can do.

I'll do my best to provoke the next Evo and RX-8 I see into racing me. I don't know how this is going to help any, but it seems like a good idea to me right now. Nothing could possibli go wrong.......possibly....well, that's the first thing that's ever gone wrong.

Anyone who got that last part is 1337.

I think the worst thing about evos is that giant ugly-*** wing on the back, ricer look straight from the factory. And I hate the same thing on the STi most also. everyone who wants their car to look fast copies the look and since the two cars already look pretty plain as they come, it's not hard to copy.

in contrast, the 8 looks classy from the factory

but... the evo will trash an 8 around any track or drag racing. what's more important to you is the question...

I'll sum up my perception of each car as a person seeks person ad

the evo: strong hard-core dike with small breasts and rock hard abs who can't wait to tear everyone a new one. dress cheap.

the 8: slim, sexy and graceful (non-hippy) dancer, quiet but strong, leans towards compromise but can be feisty.

the 350Z: voluptous female boxer with sexy curves, strong and fast. demands lots of exclusive attention, high maintenance.

I'll take the 8 myself...

i look at the rx8 as: slim, sexy and graceful dancer, have a constant thirst for top shelf liqour and never seems to have enough and is always thirsty. She even drinks more than this hot high class model named Ferrari that you've always had a crush on. Shes super high maintenance and needs constant attention. Especially in the winter time when its cold outside, If you dont becareful she might just choke on some alcohol and get her lungs flooded. you then need to get a cab and take her to the hospital and get the alcohol drained from her lungs. This is free of charge since she has health insurance, but the insurance will be cut off soon after a year or 2 or 3. You also need to keep close tab of her blood level, she has a mysterious tendency to loose blood over time, so she needs blood infusion every month or 2. But you put up with her because whenever you go out, everyone always stares at you and you love the attention that she brings you. And you believe that she can outrun anyone in the twisties. Whenever someone tells you about how great another girl is, you say "take it to the twisties"
