Engine warranty, dealer problem
hello
IŽll just get right to the point. The problem is that my rx-8 is 2004 model and driven 36.000 km. I imported it from U.S.A. to Iceland(europe) 2007 and it has bin running very well since then. But earlier this week it started to make terrible noises from the engine and then the CEL started blinking and then it died.
I have talked to my dealer and they just say "there is no warranty on cars imported from U.S.A." when iŽm telling them that the engine is in warranty for eight years and 100.000k after it is produced.
I just ask is this really right...???

You imported to ICELAND and you expect a warranty?
ICELAND. Clue is in the title.
Personally, I would've bought Mazda's SX-10 rotary snowmobile but hey, to each his own.
Seriously though, if you called and asked, then they're probably right. Imports aren't very "warranty friendly."

Well, I'm not sure, but the warrenty should still be there. Some guy was just talking about that from cuba or somewhere down there. To be on the safe side just call mazda itself and find out unless someone on here knows more about importing cars since I've never imported one.

Warranty on US cars is supported by Mazda USA. You might need to send it back to the US to get warranty work done. But the warranty might have been voided by driving it outside the US. You should look up what the warranty booklet says.

I have a feeling you're going to get shafted here. Your best bet will be either find a friend that is mechanically savvy to help you with fixing these issues yourself...cause the dealer will more than likely not keep the warranty since it was an imported model.

You have to send your 8 back to the usa for the warranty. I have a friend who brought his 350z to Korea. He had some kind of "key" issues, he wasn't able to open the door when his Z was arrived lol He asked both Nissan and Infinity dealers in Korea, but they refused to do it for him. So he had to send back his Z here

The US engine warranty is only valid in the USA.
So the Mazda service in Iceland will certainly not apply the 100,000 mi / 8 years warranty to your car, regardless if it originates from the US or not. Sucks, but that's the fact.
