? - engine smoothness in 1st gear

I've had my '04 6 speed for about 4 weeks and have noticed that a normal lauch in 1st gear can often be rough. The engine seems to hesitate and sputter, not smooth at all. When it gets above 2000 rpms, it is very smooth. At idle, the engine does sputter at times, but is tolerable.

Is this a low RPM problem (the car needs more rpm's to launch, maybe due to low engine torque) or an issue with the engine at low rpms? My car is an April 04 build date (138000+ series), so the flashes should be up to date. Your thought and experiences would be appreciated.

I don't have a problem with it. I found it took me a while to get used to the clutch because it engages so quickly.....My problem is that if I have the tunes up I end up launching the car with the revs up around 3500. ...you can't feel it so i'm I'm nor paying attention it looks like I'm an idiot racing everyone at the light.

Just curious since I'm currently having low RPM and idle issues, but can you rev the motor (when stopped in neutral) and hold the throttle rock steady at 1250 RPM (or any other rpm under 2k and over idle) or does the motor fluctuate/bobble and sputter? If you can hold the RPMs steady at any point under 2k, than I think it maybe your driving style IMHO. If your engine RPMs fluctuate then I think there is a problem like I'm having which I don't have an answer for yet.

Cool

Rotten42, I totally agree. I just brought my 8 home yesterday and I have the same problem. The gas pedal has such a lite touch, the engine revs so fast, and the clutch engages so different from my other cars that I know I also sound like I don't have the slightest idea how to drive a stick at times. It's going to take a little getting used to.

Then, after I get the 8 down pat, I'll hop into my '71 351C Mustang Mach I and look like an idiot all over again!

this is all manual cars... you just need to give it a little more gas. or stick the clutch in.
