Engine shuts off and hesitation.....

Just wanted to see if anyone has experience this issue. This has happened to me twice and not re-occurred again. I started my AT 8 up, put in Drive and press the gas pedal. The response from the engine was very hesitant and it shut off. Turned the car back on and then continued driving with no problems. After a few weeks it happened again but the engine didn't shut off, hit the gas pedal harder and I continued on my way. Now I'm just wondering if I should take it in to the dealership and have it checked out, or was it just one of those starting the car after sitting for a few hours thing? Its an AT so I don't know if anyone with an MT will have these issues. Its been a few weeks and no problems so far, so what do you think?

I usually get this problem when I first start the car and don't let it warm up. Let the car warm up for about 5 mins. If the problem is re-occuring , then I would check the oil and fill it to the appropriate level.

If the problem still comes back. Take it in

If you have to warm up the car for more than a minute then I think you've got a problem (unless we're talking about Alaska like temps). For temps in the 50s or above, I think anything more than 30sec is a problem. The manual says let the engine idle for 10 sec (pg 5-4). Don't use the gas pedal at all during start up or idle warm-up.

Next time you go in for an oil change mention it to the Mazda service dept and see if they can detect anything. The engine management system is supposed to keep track of malfunctions, but I don't know how long it will keep that info stred in memory

Need more information. What was the engine temperature when this happened? It could be related to cold weather, the 8 does not run too well straight off the mark on a cold morning. Or it could be a fault in one of the engine sensors. If it happens again note the driving conditions and temperature and consult your dealer.

MT here and I crank-n-go for the most part. I mean I crank the car (leaving foot off the gas) and then I close the door, drop the steering wheel, flip on the lights, turn on the a/c, set the radio (whole process takes 20 to 30 seconds I'd guess) and then I release the brake and put it in gear and go. Have never had the car stall or hesitate (except when I was learning to release the clutch in first - the 8's my first MT). Some poles several months back were pointing to the AT having a higher rate of flooding problems, maybe they are a bit jickier than MT's????

Easy for you to say. I live in Canada.

For the car to run perfectly well. It should be on for at least 5 mins in the winter time. Maybe 2 mins in the summer.

So what happend simply blue ???
