AU RX-8 burning

Bought a 2004 RX-8 demonstrator in early 2005, 700K's on the clock, no mods, always dealer serviced, After a couple of years it fried an electrical loom, 400 bucks for the loom, and about the same to fit same. Sold it to my daughter who recently pulled up with smoke pouring out from the engine bay and from under the car. The Mazda dealer assessment was an electrical short, frying the coils, and allowing excess fuel into the engine which caused the catalytic converter to overheat and burn all types of fittings under the car. Cost for repair over $13,000. My suggestion to her, sell tickets, invite the media, take it into a paddock, and burn it to the ground. Great car when it was going, nightmare when it is not.
Never received any recall notices at any time.

They catch fire when you don't change the coils in time. Your ignition was probably bad. That why it sent excess fuel to the cat.

AU RX-8 Burning

That's the crunch she had only just had the car serviced, and replaced the coils and leads.
