Ebay?

Anyone here brought their 8 from ebay?
I did a search and all I can find is people buying spoiler and sunglasses, I was wondering if anyone has any experience with cars.

I am a ebay noob, I never brought anything from there (and when i try to read their instructions and "how to" stuff it wont load...something wrong with the internet here in vancouver canada, where I am staying for vacation..)

I been searching for the rx8 I want locally for a long time but they dont have the color I want...So I went to ebay and found one with everything I want plus navigation (all opinions plus navigation) 2004 22k miles for 19k, but I am still not sure if buying there is a good idea...any comments and pointers will be appreciated.

Oh yea there is also this service http://www.carchex.com I wonder if it is even worth the time.

they offer crazy low prices n make up some excuse that need to sell quick. The scam goes on by them asking you to wire the money to sum remote area in a different country. They try to make it legit by saying they have a third party hold the money and you will get the car and be able to inspect it blah blah. That is the most common. Then theres salvage titles, no titles, Buyback titles, which can be legit but can be deceiving. This forum is great place for under-priced rx8s. I suggest you buy a rx8 in person. There are a lot more things to check for on a rx8.

I have bought 2 GMC denali's on ebay in the last 4 years. I bought both from actual car dealers. Wired the money into their bank accounts. One I had shipped, one I picked up in person. Not really a way to get screwed when dealing with a legitimate dealership.

Individuals can be harder to deal with. I would not buy from an individual without going there in person and seeing the car before money changes hands.

from my observations of 8's on eBay, they all seem to be selling pretty dang cheap compared to the miles and condition.

To be quite frank, if you've got the ***** to do it, and end up with an honest seller, it could be QUITE the deal on an 8.

I am put off by it but..

I am a little put off by the EBay motors thing, but that is just because I've never done it. I have a buddy that just bought a stunning Civic SI, low mileage and got an incredible deal, he bought the car from a guy in New York, a police officer that we think might have bought the car at a police auction or something, the price seemed too good to be true, he flew up there to inspect and buy the car paying upon delivery and driving it home. His transaction went smoothly and 6 months later he loves his car. It is possible to get a great deal through E-Bay, but you really need to be on your game, cautious and careful. I'd suggest that if you do decide to work through E-Bay if you get the feeling anything about the deal is fishy, i.e. someone asking you wire your money to nigeria, you cancel that deal immediately.

Good luck on your hunt.

I bought mine on Ebay, no problems whatsoever. I saved about $3k from what a similar one was going for up here (Minneapolis). My girlfriend and I flew down to Chicago to pick it up. I bought from an individual, so I was a little worried about being ripped off. Best advice I could give would be talk to the person on the phone and try to get a feel for them. I had an inspection done, but I'm pretty sure it was a waste of money. Just make sure it's in warranty.

For the record it's a 04 6spd with 21k miles on it when I bought it in March. $16k. Cheapest I could find up here was $19k or so.

Hey how does Tax works when you buy from a dealer in another state? Do you go buy and not pay tax then pay tax in your own state later?

taxes can be tricky when buying from out of state. You have what applies to your state and the state you buy from. An inspection company can only care so much about the car. Just remember an rx8 is a great car, one of a kind. But you have to check for a lot of things when buying from basics like service bulliteins, recalls, accidents, to more specific things such as my Ti gray the paint is almost impossible to match so a body shop can come close but not match perfect. ask for pictures of the under body most people dont do this but rust in the wrong spots can really screw you later. This may sound cheap but trust me not even bill gates likes to pay for crappy MPG. Ask the owner for average mpg and any thing that effects mpg, spark plugs, coil check, and latest mazda "pcm flash".

Pretty much that. Sales tax gets paid when you register the car. If you're buying from a legitimate dealer, they'll know the process. If you buy from an individual, they're not going to collect sales tax so you pay when you go to DMV.
