30 mins before i left to the movies with my buddies i was reading this thread and how people compare the 8 with the mustang... anyway we get to the movies, get out of the car and my friend see's a mustang he goes up to it, points and says "that looks like your car!" all i say is WOW.

I was talking with this guy about cars...
Guy: Yeah, I used to drive an RX-7. I wouldn't buy one again though, since they quit putting the rotary engine in them.
Me: They still come with a rotary
Guy: Nah, dude, they put V8's in them now.
Me: Right...
And just last night, talking with a chick at Starbucks:
Her: Yeah, I don't know what type of car you drive - I've only seen it.
Me: It's a Mazda RX-8
Her: Ooh, that has a V8, right?
Me: No, it's a rotary.
Her: Oh. Well, I bet I could beat you off the line. I'm always the first one to go at a stoplight.
She drives a Ford Ranger. I had to bite my tongue to keep from laughing.
She told me that I "shouldn't have gotten an expensive car" when I used my car payment as an excuse to not skip work and go to the beach with her today.

First off this isn't replacing the Head of Corporate Design- that's currently Laurens van den Acker who replaced Moray Callum in 2006.
Derek Jenkins will be Replacing Franz von Holzhausen who left Mazda North America for Tesla a short while ago.
Now you might wonder why i throw all these names in this post- its not just name dropping.
Van den Acker is from the Netherlands and worked previously at Bugatti and Ford before joining Mazda.
Callum is from Scotland and worked at Ghia (worked on Jaguars there too) , Aston Martin, Chrysler and Ford.
Franz is from Connecticut(I thought he was younger then me- must be the hair -but ive just seen he was born a month later no wonder we got on well at 7stock) and designed the Solstice, the Sky, the Kabura and Furai all AFTER working the new Beetle into production under J Mays (actually even after Mays had left for Ford) at Volkswagen
Derek Jenkins worked not in Germany but out of VWs California Design Center. He's whole career so far is with VW but guess what one of his early projects was..... the new Beetle with Mays and Franz!!!
one of his concepts was the 2005 GX-3 "Ariel atom meets trike by VW"
which if you've seen my "secret is out thread" you can guess where it was built

But the point is all of these guys have tremendous talent. They nearly all have gone to the same school tho starting out in different places. And they've worked with each other or replaced each other at some point. None of them are German

and ahahah i remember the first day or 2nd day after driving my 8 to school, at 3 when i was leaving, a group of "gangsters" yelled out say boyyy when you gun drive me around in yo mazuh rat tayyy

I got a parking ticket yesterday. My car is completely debadged but in front of the rear wheel well I have a TEIN sticker.

A couple approched my car, started staring at it for a while.
Then asked me "Is it a Lexus?"
I said no its a mazda
their reply "Is it one of em Zoom Zoom cars, sure is one of da best lookin cars we've seen"

Yesterday I was stopping to get gas at like 4:30 am on my way into work.
As soon as I got out of my car, The guy inside says over the loudspeaker:
"HEY MAN THAT'S A COOL CAR HOW FAST DOES IT GO!?!?!
How are you even supposed to answer that? Then he says
"SECOND QUESTION! CAN I DRIVE IT!?"
I was thinking, it's 4:30 am, is this really happening to me? So I walk in to the store to get a Monster and pay for my gas and he then feels the need to ask me some more questions.... Starting with
"Hey man, thats a pretty fast looking car, it's a Mazda6 right?"
No, it's an RX-8 (Blank stare - he obviously had never heard of it)
Before he could as what was in it I just told him it had a rotary engine. (More blank staring)
"Oh, cool... whats the fastest you've ever driven it?"
