what are some tools that I need for beginner work on my rx8? What are some basic tools all car DIYers should have? I work for an online auction site and we sell some basic machinic sets for like 50 bucks, thinking about picking one up...

RIWWP 08-30-2012 04:06 PM

See the 2nd thread in my sig, post #11 I think. Tools is one of the sections.

FernandoVenezuela 08-30-2012 07:00 PM

I've had a CEL that has been on since I had my ignition system replaced a few weeks back. Plugs, coils and wires. I pulled the code and it is for a "higher than average idle". RiWWP seems to think it is vaccum hose or CAT. I asked the jiffy lube dude about this today and he said vaccum hose problems only cause lower idle codes, not higher. He also says CAT problems have their own codes. He says it is probably an LAC or idle speed sensor. When I told the mazda dudes about it after they replaced my ignition system they said that the ECU will relearn itself. The jiffy lube guy says that mazda ECU's do not "relearn" only GM cars do that. Who is right? Is having a bad LAC or idle speed sensor bad for the engine? I.E, driving with one regularly. Lots of theories, very few answers. Everyone seems stumped on this one.

That reign of terror didn't last long. Also, everyone else can learn a lesson from having Jiffy Lube diagnose your rotary. If you do not feel confident working on your own 8, then please take it to a dealer or rotary specialist. Good night.

Rotor Gunnin' it 09-03-2012 10:41 AM

would the shine auto autoexe replica front look good with their replica burnout sideskirts? if not which side skirts would look good with them.

and factoring in that the total for the shine front and sides will be around 1 grand should i just buy a mazdaspeed front instead? i already have appearance package sides.

haha reign of terror? I post on this forum once a day, if that. I know trying to talk about cars on a car forum is pretty nervy isn't it? What can I say I can't help it.

As far as the Jiffy lube guy's diagnosis, atleast he provided one. You conveniently left out your own. No one else on this forum has offered one. Don't get me wrong I agree with what your saying about them, but still, in this case +1 jiffy lube -1 rx8club trolls who are secretly mustang owners.

Slidin8 09-03-2012 01:25 PM

RIWWP gave you a diagnosis, you ignored it and decided to listen to some Jiffy Lube employee. Please sell your Mustang...... I mean RX8 and buy a Camry

RIWWP 09-03-2012 02:15 PM

Fernando,

I'm about sick of your incessant need to try to find covert or subtle ways to try to cut down our community and members with lame juvenile comments. If you are an adult, ACT LIKE ONE. It is possible to ask advice, listen to advice, challenge advice, and provide your own without any of that. The post that got you banned showed that you have a flagrant lack of respect for everyone else here. I'm no longer interested in trying keep the peace between you and the members that let you get under their skin.

This is your final warning regarding this, and I will PM you the same to insure you get the message. Again. I'm just going to start banning you instead if keep getting personal with your comments.

If you want to be a part of this community then behaving as if you are a sports jock in high school with a chip on your shoulder isn't going to cut it. If you don't want to be a part of the community then just stop coming here.

Hey ive been trying to find info on a sc kit but it seems that no one makes one anymore? Or my search skills suck because all i find are kits that arent available... So my second option would be to piece a turbo kit together

RX8Soldier 09-03-2012 03:39 PM

^What is your question?
http://www.imagemaven.com/wp-content...-question1.jpg

Rotor Gunnin' it 09-03-2012 04:05 PM

i thought hymee still did :dunno:. i think its just made after you order. and they're also located in Austrailia so it'd take a while to get it to you.

kpipes 09-03-2012 04:07 PM

Basically i just want to know where to buy an sc kit if the are available new. Or would it be easier to just piece a turbo kit together

RIWWP 09-03-2012 04:14 PM

It's easier to find turbo pieces than supercharger kits. I think a new sc kit did just become available in Australia (not Hymee), for $7,000 Australian dollars. Pettit is working on a new kit, but not done. Hymee supposedly will make his to order, so expect 6+ months easy.

Turbo parts are resold frequently. Supercharger kits aren't.

See 2nd link in my sig for modding info. Expect to have $10k on hand for starters, regardless of which way you go.

comebackqid 09-03-2012 04:15 PM

piece together a turbo kit, I cant find a SC kit for the life of me. the pettit one isn't on the site anymore.

Also I have another question I just wired up some prosport gauges this weekend, and I was wondering does any one know where the lamp/DRL light wire is, I'm trying to wire them up so that in the day they are white, and when I hit the lights they are blue I have everything hooked up properly soldered my connections just can find where to wire the amber wire to a light switch?

Rotor Gunnin' it 09-03-2012 04:28 PM

Performance Design Australia

its pricey, but so is any forced induction setup. of course knowing how to fab/weld and do all the work yourself will save you money. the turblown top mount turbo kit goes for almost half the price of the hymee supercharger, but according to them its not a direct drop in. spend some time in the major horsepower section of the 8club and rumage through a few hundred pages of among threads dealing with the turbo kits and superchargers. it'll help you decide which u want to go with and which companies to avoid/go with.

good luck,
Dave

Where can I find side mirrors with the convex mirror in it? I've used the sticky ones on previous vehicles and I like them, but I want to find a more permanent item

My air conditioning is weird. When I turn it on my car idles higher than normal. When I adjust the volume of the AC I can hear some clicking sound under the hood. With each adjustment of the AC knob, I get a clicking sound from inside the engine bay somewhere. No idea if engine or not. Any idea'ers?

Mr_Pieper 09-05-2012 08:12 AM

The clicking is just the A/C compressor cycling. The higher idle is to compensate for the extra drag on the engine from the compressor. These are common noises for any car.

my 2005 rx8 has been having slow starts almost every other time. for some reason i'm thinking it has to do with either the spark plugs, or ignition coils. is their any way of knowing which one needs replaced? i'm taking my car to the dealer on monday just for regular maintenance, but i'm afraid they're going to want to fix the problem for a lot more money than it would cost me to do it myself.

Yeah, plugs, coils, and wires are a good idea about every 30k miles. Also, a 2005 may have the older starter. Read the thread Soldier recommended. It's helpful.

You can get some with lifetime warranty/free replacement for autozone/advance/oreilly, and you won't have to pay for them ever again. Excellent deal!!

DR. Victor Wankel 09-06-2012 02:42 PM

is there any way to disable the no seatbelt beep? I dont like wearing mine. If I can't do that Im thinking about buying a seat belt clip to put into the thing so it doesn't make the sound. I hate the way the seatbelt feels in this car. It just wraps around your lower intestine, its terrible.
