I don't know why I even came here to read through this, but here I am. I found that putting a big coffee mug in the cup holder way makes me shift like attached video, since I have to reach down with my fingertips. I have accidentally found 4th when going for 6th due to this, though.

Yeah, you can do that with an 8, but the throw is not as long and the gear gates feel tighter(in a good way) compared to a bus and a car. Especially given how often these buses run, they are probably very, very loose from the frequent use now.

Anyway, I wonder if the cupholder is designed that way to save cost since the centre console in the RHD and LHD cars are the exact same as it's pretty symmetrical save for the handbrake(which isn't a big deal). If they put it on the side, it solves this issue but that means they gotta redesign the centre console for the RHD and LHD markets. Probably not worth it in their mind.

I just use the rear seat cupholders for 2 main reasons.

1. As explained the the video, any drink in the front cup holders gets in the way of changing gears. In the automatic this isn't as big of a deal but I would still use the rear cup holders for reason 2.

2. The front cup holder doesn't grab onto the cups and have had times where while accelerating or turning, the entire drink will spill making a huge mess. The rear cup holders are more snug, will hold the drinks securely and not get in the way of driving.

Front cup holders are mainly just for storage. I'm not going to drink and eat in my car but sometimes go out to grab lunch and this strategy works perfect for me.

There are cupholders at the back?
I don't think I ever ventured back there....

RX-8 back seats are decently useable, especially if you compare it to a Mustang or Camaro.

I didn't use them often, but in the case I need them, they do the job fine.

I think it’s just more that nobody wants to sit in the backseat of a car that handles really good in the turns.

My sons were 6 & 7 when I bought my 8 in '06. The back seats were a significant reason I chose the 8, and they saw considerable use.

My guys are 20 & 21 now..., and the back seats haven't seen a rump in years.

So by your son's ages, you have an earlier RX. What kind of mileage? Original engine?

156k miles on odometer. 3rd engine: 1st replaced under warranty by MNA, ...2nd warranty expired... by a local shop, 3rd ...self-rebuild.

I was just hoping the owner of the car would emerge and tell us why he couldn't even bother CLEANING his car before it ended up on youtube for millions of people to see.
Although, I guess this is just par for the course in 2020

My evaluation of his evaluation :

Accuracy : 8
Thoroughness : 8
Style : 1
Entertainment value :2

Apart from that I thought the only thing I disagreed with was his take on the looks . Then again............. a stock 8 with no body kit that's dirty ..... really doesn't look very good.

Then track him down. Look up the license plate and pay the dude a visit. I am sure your stature will be very convincing.

Your review of his review is about right as well. Short, precise and to the point.

See, I just reviewed your review of his review. Reviewception!

I forgot to finish my evaluation by giving him a 'Brettscore'

Brettscore : 19/40 = 47.5%

I thought somebody posted on the forum that they bought the car shortly after the review? So I doubt the previous owner is around :sadjedi:

I gave it 3 out of 10 sharks with laser beams.

Quirks and features,..about the guy or the car
I occasionally watch his reviews but myself I like the folks at SavageGeese for most things. Good production value amongst other attributes.

Cupholder thing is true, but honestly I shouldn’t have anything other than water driving the 8 (the way I do). Had enough coffee spill everywhere.

I think the car is beautiful and yes it’s subjective. Rear seats are out on stand-by on the off chance someone does want to ride in the back.

If the car wasn’t beautiful to me, I wouldn’t have bought it.

Beauty is subjective. I mean, just look at the Z3 M Coupe aka "Clownshoe". I remembered a reviewer said it looks like a phallic on wheels.
Most Lambos are gaudy until VAG took over. 911s are basically squashed VW bugs. Most exotic cars have controversial styling.
Personally I didn't like the RX8 when it first debutted. Especially in Yellow and preferred the 350Z/G35c. But overtime, I came to appreciate it's low slung stance, tapered hood, wheel arches etc. It's not E-Type beautiful, but I think it's just so unique in the sea of Tylenol looking cars. I do agree that the front licence plate HAS TO GO!
