Does anyone else get annoyed when their car is called "slow"?
Seriously On the internet all I read is people saying stuff like "The car is slow" or "it's not worth it cause the car get's beat all the time" and I just have to think to myself .............. are you people kidding??? This is the fastest car I have ever owned, and ridden in period. On the Northway if there aren't any car's around I can push it to 150MPH and a couple in change. Would you call that slow??? How many other car's can top out at 150? I don't know maybe in the world you guys live in everyone else is driving ferrari's, and other stuff but here in my world (Upstate New York) the only other car's I see that are a serious threat are the high end luxury cars like Porsche, Higher end BMW's (7 series) and stuff like that, and the people who own them AREN'T paying the same price for their car as I did for mine, and in most cases I know my car would smoke them on some of the windier roads up here.
The fact is although people might tell me my car is slow, I refuse to believe it, Slow is my Mom's Toyota Camry or my sister's dodge stratus. I mean yeah i want a supercharger or turbo some day but that's not because the car is slow right now, hell I very very RARELY use the speed that the car has! It's just because I'm a guy and want to go faster than 155MPH, which is the fastest I've ever been in a car by the way.
I don't know I just get annoyed when I read comments like "the car is slow" because to me it isn't and it's all based on other people's perspective. Yeah the car is slow when compared to a Bugatti Veryon but when it comes to the car's that I deal with around here (Bloated Rustangs, and the occasional 350z) it's not slow at all, and i think it gets an unfair rep.
P.S. I could also say the same for reliability, the car has been reliable for me, never had a problem so I dunno what is wrong with people =/

stratus is around the average rx8 driver, low 15's quarter mile.
So in conclusion, your car is slow

Why the **** would I care that some 16 year old on the internet with a riced out ford fiesta thinks my car is slow?
I've driven the car. the handling is sublime. It's quick, it's nimble, and it puts a smile on my face every time i look at it.
**** haters.

No. Why should that bother anyone? It is what it is. Do you get annoyed when people point out that you can't fit a steamer trunk or a 4x8 sheet of plywood in the trunk?

Plus, while they are street racing their 'fast' cars, we're driving in style, trying to beat off the ladies with sticks

Ya, I have gotten the same comments. However, the only people I really get those comments from are either from people who have big block V8's with lots of torque and from those that have never driven the car before. Those that have driven the RX8 and at least somewhat pushed the car don't seem to complain. Yes, the car, in my opinion, could use some more low-end torque, but the amount of fun the car is to drive and the way it handles makes up for that. I just brush those comments off and feel sorry for those who have never experience the fun of the 8.

Its a bit annoying, How often do I get left behind a faster car?
Not that often, 99% of all cars I meet are slower.
I did a topspeed test last weekend, 262km/h with a GPS. thats more then I need...

Relative to true sports cars, or even most sporty cars it is slow. Who cares? Do you enjoy driving it? I love my 8... no, it's not the fastest, and no it doesn't get the best gas mileage, and no it's not that practical, but it puts a smile on my face every time I get behind the wheel--that's what really matters. And as "slow" as it is, in normal driving I'm still waiting on other traffic 99% of the time anyway.

i hate getting stuck being people on on or offramps. Theres one around here onto i95, the limit is 25, i take it at 80 or higher. i can take my wheels tools and a girl in the car comfortably to an autocross, and go 150mph with a 32" lcd in the original padded box. Who cares if i cant beat every idiot at a redlight. Its not worth trying anyway, if i got caught, i couldnt keep buying cars like this...
this car is all about balance. Its not the fastest, but its no snail. Its not exactly roomy, but it beats the hell out of a z or s2k for comfort and room and quality. Its no ferrari for looks, but it looks better than any car for double the price or less.
This isnt the best or fastest car ill ever own, but for now, it is doing damn fine.

I do, but I've only gotten it from people who haven't driven them. People who think Mazda's original HP figures were a scam and how it doesn't have much "low end torque."
I'd take it seriously from someone who has heard the RX-8, whose driven one, and more importantly someone whose heard the customary 9k beep. But the fact of the matter is, anyone who has done those things already knows what a cool car it is.
Take pride in the fact that is UNIQUE. I just went on a 1,500 mile road trip from California (Pacific Coast Highway), through Vegas and the Grand Canyon all the way to Colorado. Know how many RX-8s I saw in 1500 miles of road? ONE.
How many Corvettes, PT-Cruisers, Camrys and Econoboxes did I see? I couldn't even begin to count.
You're driving a rotary engine car, one of very few in the entire United States. Even more uniquely, you're driving the RX-8. Be proud of that.

I get more compliments on the merits of the rotary engine alone then I do hate about my 8 being slow. I'd say about once a week someone comes by my desk, see's my rotary clock and comments about how they used to have an old RX-7, or RX3, how they always thought the design was elegant, I've had discussions with people on the board of directors at my work about how we almost all ended up driving rotary powered cars.
You think that's going to happen with your mustang? Nah.

Hah, one of my coworkers kept insisting my car was slow, and then one day I had to drop him off to get his car from the mechanic, on the way back, getting on the highway, I took the on ramp at 60mph (the recommended was 25, but who listens to those stupid signs anyways?) and kept accelerating as I merged onto the highway.
Coworker also pulled onto highway, was quickly left behind, and witnessed a Porsche and a BMW of some kind pull out of their lanes and get behind me as I accelerated to 145mph weaving in and out of traffic, leaving them wayy behind.
Since, he doesn't think of the 8 as slow :P

I didnt buy my car for everyone else. I bought it because I liked it, and I'm the one that drives it. Theres allways going to be a faster car no matter what you'd buy. HP # people are idiots.

I Don't think the car is slow. You just have too many people that have raced an auto or 4-port rx8 at a light and won easily.
If the general consensus from ricers and the token car guy at work is that a car is such, then in circles discussing car stuff people often parrot what they heard.
Folks just don't know about our car, and you really have to listen to all the other points made in this thread:
-The car is for corners
-It's a 1.3 liter, NATURALLY ASPIRATED
-It has 4 doors, 4 seats, and costs less than $30k new.

People generally acknowledge that talking about politics and religion in mixed company is rude for many reasons, but this is one of them. I wish comments about how slow someone's car was considered impolite, also.
I don't care how slow or ugly someone's car is, I don't need to be walking around with my dick in the air telling them how bad it is. They paid good money for it, and they're proud of it. Let 'em be.
I had a guy come over to my house a month back and the very first thing he said to me (BEFORE EVEN SAYING HELLO) was "DUDE! What the ****! I told you to get X and Y stereo system for your TV! The one you have now SUCKS!!"
When I'm considering purchasing something, that's when you can tell me your opinion on it, on how good or bad it is. But after I've already bought something, why are you going to rag on it? Tell me yours is better or bigger or faster or harder? I bought it because I wanted it and I'm proud of it.
The only reason I can see for ragging on something someone already bought is to make them feel bad or make yourself seem knowledgeable. Neither of those attributes is something I value in a friend, and needless to say he hasn't been invited over since. Wasn't really my friend, to begin with, but this "car is slow" business is another branch of the same tree of arrogance.
