Dodging Potholes

Does anyone else like to dodge potholes? It's fun! And other cars give you weird stares.

Incredibly guilty here. (Raises hand.) Dodging potholes in Southern California this winter has become a near-spiritual experience, not to mention the necessity of keeping the RX-8 from pothole doom.

It's so annoying driving behind someone doing that. Especially when it's an SUV. I had a Porsche Cayenne nearly take me out when the driver swerved into my lane as I was overtaking so that they could dodge a puddle. IT'S AN SUV! !#$#@# !@#! !@#@ @#$...

If I'm in my car, I'm guilty. If I'm driving my wife's Jeep, I aim for them.........because I can.

I got pulled over for driving on a rough road and dodging potholes. I was given a sobriety test and let go. WTF?

Guys......... maybe you are secretly logging for autox
Unless the pothole is huge and you can safely avoid it, I would think that you either risk hitting the guard rail with the side of the car, scratching the rims on a curb, or loosing control and get in an accident. I personally go for the pothole most of the time - the tires are wide (so you might not fully drop in it) and the suspension is hard (so many times I "fly" on top of the pothole). And I try to never ever brake when I am near one... I accelerate usually.
Just my $0.02

If you're swerving enought to get pulled over, maybe some of you should re-think the sportscar purchase. If you can buy an SUV and drive it straight, maybe that's safer for all involved. Sorry to be a downer.

Definalty not a better option. I have seen more SUVs swerve to avoid potholes than I have seen sports cars. Just the other day I was behind a huge Lincoln Navigator that swerved entirely into the next lane to avoid a tiny pot hole that I drove right over without a problem.

Had I been a driver in the other lane I would have felt much better about a sports car swerving into my lane than a gigantic SUV. At least with the sports car there is a chance we can both fit in the same lane for a moment without me getting crushed.

But to be fair, the roads here in Boston are so bad latley there are potholes that will take out an SUV as easily as an RX-8.

I'd like to rephrase the statement. It's not that I like dodging potholes, instead I dislike hitting the potholes. It keeps the ride entertaining though. In a car this size I feel like I have plenty of room to be agile and swerve around a pothole, all the while staying in my lan.

An absolute neccessity in an MP3 or Mazdaspeed Protege, if you want to keep your innards in the same order you were born with.

OOF! That hurts!

The point was kinda that they wouldn't have to swerve any more. As long as you don't buy one of those rediculous SUV's I see with the low profile tires, and you maintain your tire pressures, there's no reason for an SUV to swerve if they're traveling at a reasonable speed for the conditions.
