Absolutely, YES. The only exception is if you live in a location with hellacious winters. It's not AWD, not designed to get you through winters in North Dakota. MT is to be preferred for winter driving.
You can get all-season tires, put 200 lbs. in the trunk, and do OK in winter if you don't start thinking you're Nanook of the North. And nothing grips the road if it's a sheet of ice.
Personally, I and others garage our RX-8's for the worst of the winter. From Nov. 1 to March 1, mine will only come out when it's clear and the roads are dry.
For DD in the southern half of the country, it will do fine year-round.

rootski, he's right, all the sports cars now adays barely even have the manual trannies that we do, they all have moved on.........the rx8 is still stuck here with either a manual or an auto, lets face it, mazda aint giving us a better tranny........

If it weren't for someone trying to tell me that dual exhausts are for balancing the weight of a car today this would be the stupidest thing I've heard in a while.

You're in for a huge treat, briann. When you bring it home the first time, you won't want to shut it off and go in the house!

You'll get up in the middle of the night and go out and sit in it! And if it won't wake anybody up, you just might start it up and take a spin.

It's an addiction. You'll see.

tajabaho1 10-08-2007 09:06 PM

^ call that rx8 syndrome, everyone's got it

and ike, give me a break, I'm already fighting a losing battle damn it, you don't have to shoot nails at me to make it worse

ToothFairy 10-08-2007 09:20 PM

And if it gets taken away, you'll find yourself going through rx8 withdrawals

tajabaho1 10-08-2007 09:33 PM

^ you know all about it don't u toothfairy :)

ToothFairy 10-08-2007 09:36 PM

I find the auto-vs-manual thread will often end up without any conclusion on which version is better, because each version has its own merits for each owner/driver. I picked mine with a 6-speed auto even though I used to drive a MT car in the past. I just don't see much of the performance gap between the AT and MT version and I don't even miss my days with the previous manual car.

On this thread, some people say RX8 is not the car for someone whose driving environment calls for frequent stop-and-go traffic. In my opinion, that statement does not make any sense at all. Even for someone in that stop-and-go traffic situation, he/she does not stay in that conditional all the time. There would be some open roads after the stop-and-go traffic. What counts is the owner/driver enjoys how his/her RX8 (AT or MT) provides the driving pleasures compared to other mundane front-wheel drive econo-box or run-of-the-mill family sedans.

^ sorry, after about 100 posts your view will change, taking the middle road doesn't work on this forum, if you are passive, you will get ither pwned or converted

good luck

When I was considering AT vs MT here's a simple formula my gearhead friend gave me:
RX8+AT=sedan with spiffy doors
RX8+MT=sports car
:)
Seriously though, it's a personal preference. AT folks on this board just need to have thicker skins.

tajabaho1 10-10-2007 10:44 AM

^ actually, we need lighter skin, hollow bones, a faster metabolism, and a lighter heart

LOL don't we all? :)
My point was that you gotta have a thick skin to put up with the razzing you'll get when you say you have an AT. IMO be happy with whatever choice you make. Sometimes when I'm driving in commute traffic I start thinking "why the hell did I buy an MT?" The grass is never greener...

tajabaho1 10-10-2007 01:30 PM

obviously my quote was too smart for you, let me break it down

we need a lighter skin= so we lower our body weight, hence increasing our ability to dodge all the shit you throw our way
we need hollow bones = for the aboved mentioned ability+ we might someday develop wings and fly away to avoid more shits you throw our way, but we don't think its a good idea anymore (dick cheney might shoot us)
we need a faster metabolism= to fuel our cells with the needed energy to run/sprint/ dodge/ fly/ fu.......I mean dig tunnels to hide from the on coming artillery barrage of insults
a lighter heart = just so when we do get hit, we can scoff it off and still be happy

just so u know

I just let my 8at answer those who think it's too slow and no fun. Their scoffs turn to amazment and then resentment. We can't win but sure have fun trying.

Did you ever try and drink a big gulp and drive a mt in city traffic?

Did you ever try and fit a big gulp into those midget cup holders?

No drinks allowed in my 8. Problem solved. It's my sports car, not a cafe table. :lol2:
