do you own a AT or MT?
im still debating whether to get an AT or MT rx8 :uhh:
if anyone wants to give me their opinon/help me choose, hit me up on AIM brrianx i seriously cant choose :banghead: can you add the pros and cons of your transmission? that would help thanks :) |
oh crap, I see a storm of bash the ATs coming.......
|
manual transmission is the only way to go
|
MT. I see absolutely no reason to buy an RX-8 in AT.
|
once upon a time i was going to get the 8 in AT, but I bought a MT because it was fully loaded. I couldn't drive my own car for 3 days, but once I finally took time to learn, I was SO glad I didn't get a AT. When people see your car and you tell them you have a AT, they will make fun of you. Just ask tajabaho :)

Had only ATs before and was a little afraid of going MT, still got my RX-8 MT and would not have considered AT. No offense to AT owners... whatever rocks your boat :) |
lol
ive never driven a MT car and no one i know has one but ive researched a whole lot about how to drive a MT/how it works hopefully i can get an rx8, maybe next year AT=easier, but. a sports car w/ AT?! MT=redline?!, but im not sure if i know how and traffic? BOB SAGETT :banghead: |
uh oh! dont post your age.. edit.... edit it now!
|
You don't want any sort of RX8 as your first car.

Ordered the car with the 6spd auto, we don't race so the minor speed difference is of no concern. Wouldn't trade it for anything.
|
Don't be a girly man!! Just kidding the auto comes in a 6 port now I do believe.

^^ so true. Good point
|
The At is 215 hp and the MT is 232 "Don't hold me to those numbers, but I think it's right" It is the very same engine with the extra hp being developed with the higher revs, The At redlines at 7,500 and the MT redlines at 9,500

Edit: Damn, someone already said it. |
I've always owned manual transmission cars... but see no reason for bashing somebody that does'nt.. IMO I just coul'nt do it with this particular car. way to fun to drive with a 6 speed..
|
If you want to make friends on here.. Get a MT.
I myself have an AT and love it.. Haha. I don't need friends dammit! I have my 8! Plus, the AT is faster than the MT.. That's just what I think though.. Go figure. ;) |
MT is awesome, the way to go.
Reasons: - Higher Red Line - Better Gearing - More Horsepower - It has 3 pedals! - It builds muscle in your left leg - 75%, if not more, drive automatic in America - Keeps your wife from driving your car :) |
He's 15, he doesn't have a wife.
|
If you don't want to get the 'AT buyers remorse ' syndrome - then get the MT .
Oh - and you never ever ever hear anyone on here say " I wish I bought the AT instead of the MT " |
Again, if you ask this, you have no business owning a sports car in the first place.
|
Manual transmission for me.
|
Auto for you for asking this noob question!
|
I love my car. it's an 06 AT. 5,000 miles and still love it. i still look good and have a great time despite what people think about an AT. I even get 24 MPG on occasion
|
6 speed MT.
Driven both ATs and MTs. To each his/her own. More fun driving a MT. Drove a Nissan King Cab, Auto for over 13 years. |

MT=redline?!, but im not sure if i know how and traffic? Come on, how hard is it to push a pedal and shift a lever an inch? There is so much more activity associated with driving. Shifting is a drop in the bucket. It's not a strenous or stressful activity, I promise you. After a couple of days it becomes totally intuitive and you don't even have to think about it. Your biggest concern will be the "other" driver, not your shifting. Even in traffic or poised on top of a hill facing up with a stop sign, it's just no big deal once you learn how. It allows you to be in better communication with your car. A MT will also give you the option of a compression start, should you ever need to do so, as well as complete traction control in snow, ice, or other situations where you may get stuck. There is less chance of you riding the brake with your left foot with a MT, something that a LOT of people with AT's do unconsciously. If you brake with your left foot, you're probably driving around with your brake lights on constantly (I see this several times a day). It only takes a slight amount of foot pressure to activate the switch and turn yourself into a road hazard. It also can prematurely wear the brake pads which may contribute to overheating and failure (when you need them most!). Hundreds of millions of people have driven MT's now for a hundred years. Rest assured, you can too. And if you ever have to drive a big truck, you'll be ready. Much easier to learn in a car than in a Kenworth. :) A sports car in it's purest formula has a manual transmission. If you genuinely want to experience it, and have no physical limitations, learn to drive a manual. You will be oh so glad you did. :) |

AT FTW! lol just go test drive a AT and a MT in rush hour and see whats best for you.
|
The usual m/t fan boys are out but not yet in force. More bashing to come I'm sure. Both trannys are fun and have good and bad points. Get what ever you feel comfortable with.

ahaha, now we AT are gonna give u our part of the story:
I have had a massive "I want an MT stroke" I am telling you now, that if you live in socal or very congested areas, that "extra inch moving" is going to be a hassle, you also in terms of street and speed wise, it doesn't really make that much of a difference, wanna prove me wrong, I dare you in your stock MTs to come and race me, you might win by what, a car's length? half a car's length? that is if you shift flawlessly, in other words, the AT transmission opens up alot of opportunity on the road for you, even if you do have a sports car, those times when you DO want to do something else, talk on the phone, eat in congested traffic, text messaging(i know its dangerous but if you have a gf pls tell me you have a choice!?!?), and ofcourse, the occasional quicky on the way to work/school, show off? stereo? there are bunch of stuff you can now do with out having to shift........ quite frankly, if there is an open road and fun place to drive......you can switch to the manual-shifting mode, then just go nuts, you also have those nice paddle shifters if you like to keep both hands on the steering wheel, my 2 cents |
you are right taja about everything except the car length ;)

I drive on the same freeways as you. I've even parked next to you before. And I still love my manual. oh yea, it's more like 5 car lengths... |
^ i didn't say you didn't............... I love your manual too...in fact, I love all the rx8s........(oh no, here comes my manual attack again)
besides, rodger, you come late, no fair, come down the 405 with me in da mornin man!!! |

I seriously love my 06 AT shinka. No regrets about it at all. I don't get all the negativity and people saying that these cars are worthless unless they're MTs. As long as you have an 06 or later, the AT models are just fine. My AT is plenty of fun in the fake manual mode.
|
^^I can't ever recall anyone seriously saying the car is "worthless" with a AT...But many people actually do prefer a MT. It may be just a matter of what you were brought-up with. Some of us in the "40+" category come from a time when AT's just were not an option in a sports car. AT used to be offered in "luxury" cars only and not associated with high-performance.
And it is a sin to sit in gridlock in an RX-8. Time to move. |
Stop-and-go traffic has got to be a pain with an MT car, but seriously, is it bad enough to justify buying the slower, less fun version?

true sports car is neither tranny.
true sports car is SMG or DSG. neither of which are offered. i have a MT, i drive 5 miles through the d.c. area then hit 95 on my way to school for another 25 miles. shifting is a biotch in city. and it doesnt make a difference on the highway. the only reason i have a MT is the bigger penis it gives you. |
I see...........it does give you a bigger ego huh........lol
