wait so guys...how does it go? is the ranking go from the lowest model to the highest like sports, touring, THEN grand touring? i know about the shinka but not interested. Im in the moment of purchasing an 8 right now but dont know which model best suits me. Whats the pro's/con's in getting a sports, touring, and grand touring?

Nowhere did he ask for opinions on his purchase, he already bought it and its irrelevant at this point that its an auto.

He wasnt trying to pretend he had a manual, he didnt realize that it wasnt a 'manu-matic' like a VW or Benz. Get off the dudes case and welcome him to the club.
i didn't even come back to this thread until now and just saw this post. relax, chief, it was a joke and at least he got it.

yes, touring is sports plus a few features like moonroof, bose, auto-dimming mirrors, homelink, etc. grand touring is the touring plus leather, heated seats, heated mirrors. shinka is the grand touring plus a few bells and whistles.

each level offers something to each type of person. the moonroof on the touring and GT have more weight and less headroom. for some that wear a helmet, that's a no-go. for some who like to have it open in the summer, it's a must have. some love leather, some hate it.

there are advantages and disadvantages to each. figure out what you want out of your car and pick the level that suits you.

sorry, just to be clear (For my own curiosity). If I have hids, bose, sunroof but no leather and obviously no heated seats, I have a touring model right?

i got another question since we're at it. I was at the dealerships today test driving the 05 rx8, the guy claims the sunlight silver rx8 is a shinka, it has everything a grand touring would have... heated leather seats, mirror dim, side mirror defroster etc you get the point but it doesnt have the ugly tan/white suede seats a shinka would have...my question is IS that a shinka? he claims he ran the vin and it came up as a shinka. soo what should i look for that shows its a shinka or not?

it is a GT, not shinka. 05 shinkas did not come in SS. running VINs sometimes brings up the wrong type but you can look all you want and won't find a SS shinka made in 05.

there was a base model that didn't have DSC but going from memory may have just been on the base AT. ash wednesday fasting has my brain needing some food for energy even this morning so i'd have to go back to look at things. but from what i can remember there was base --> sport (base + DSC, fogs, etc.) --> touring (sport + those items i said before) --> GT (touring + items i said before).

i can look it up later but really need to get some energy back. having a personal training session at the gym on almost no food the day before might have been a bad idea

Sooo if I have the nav system and the heated leather seats on an 04 I have the GT? Witch at the time was the best you can get? Also on Mazda's site is says that the 09 comes with a 232 HP engine or a 212 HP engine? was this also true for the 04s?
