Any final atempts at convincing me to go RB opposed to Typhoon?...
Just pick one already... None of them will give you any real gains and they will all poetentially mess with your maf sensor. Maybe you can find a package deal on the intake, the fake BoV noisemaker, and a chrome fuel door from somewhere.

i would much rather have the revi... not to mention you cant hook up the duct to anything but the revi (you can kind of hook it up to the oem one... thats what i have done right now). Airbox style intakes are always function over form.. the chrome tube intakes seem a little cheezy sometimes.. i had one on my a4 and it sounded great.. but it didn't make a difference. An engineer for audi's racing program told me (this was back in the days of the b5 chassis.. so a long time ago) that they actually ran the oem airbox on their racecars becuase it was much more efficient than any other style. Not to mention if you're going with ram air you HAVE to have an airbox style intake. Just pointing a duct at your k&n style intake will do no good, incoming air will go wherever the pressure is low unless you have a sealed airbox to pressurize the air.

wow,
i got to this late... did you order a kn typhoon??? did not think they made them anymore...

in the big picture of intakes i think this one sucked the most.... yes it makes noise, but has shown to lose power.... rough idle and cel... needs a screen to smooth air flow over the maf...

the kn. second version is much better.... the revi is the revi... works great makes power and noise. add the duct and makes more power at speed and less noise...

as to mpg, sorry no gain...

good to go... you can add the duct to it... the only ? i have about that intake is why they did not seal the top. but my guess is that the hood is in very close....

when you pull the stock air box it will make sense...

Romeo, I have the 2nd gen K&N intake & i think it's great. i do wish it was sealed but for the price, i think it's a solid intake. there are lots of threads here discussing ways to possibly improve on its design & mating it w/ the RB air duct. do some searching & tell us what you think once you've installed it.

Homedepot has the stuff to turn the K&n into a airbox pretty easy and cheap, if you already own a drill, tin snips, and rivit gun.

I've seen a couple independent tests where the REVi nets almost 10hp peak gain. If you add the cold air/ram piece you get a nice strange sucking sound when you stand in front of the car too.

Crazy...

Yeah, I was close to getting the REVi, but i figured the typhoon would give out a more unique sound...

i guess I wont know till I try it out... if I dont like it, i'll get the REVi

If your gonna spend all that $$ for a REVi you might be better off getting the HKS.
I've dyno'd a turbo H22 about 6 years ago and the difference between no air filter and the HKS was the same.
They might of changed things since then, but thats what the difference used to be.

ok, So i got my intake today. (Next day shipping!! w00t!) well, there was a 1 day delay because there was some issues with my address and the credit card. Anyway, Chris from Mazdatrix was a great help. Props to him. I opened the package up and it was like 101 peices... i admit, i was a little scared. So I start reading the manual on how to do it. The instructions are super clear, but there are some parts that i was a bit lost with. I was scared of pulling of wire after wire. then i pulled out the stock air filter and i was like PHEW!
the rest was pretty much a breeze. I plugged it all in I was scared shitless. I turned it on.... sounded stock still. I reved it up a bit..... I nutted. No joke.

The Typhoon2 is sooo damn loud (in a good way) its so sexy. I took her out and opened her up on the 5 FWY. By chance there was a blue rx7 (FD)entering too. I opened that **** up, as I passed up the 7 (It must have been a chick) no reaction fron the other car at all... I kept going, and as I would let go of the throttle, quiet again, the moment I step on it.... Typhoon kicks in... real sexy. I was going maybe 65 on 6th gear... I floor it (with no power) and you can still hear the intake pushing. It litterally turned me on to Finally hear noise coming out of my 8. (Reminded me of my Ricer Days)

anyway. time to eat. I been working on the car since i got home from work. It was about a 2 hour job.

i'll see you guys later.

Glad you like the intake. I have the Simota intake in my car and love the sound as well. It's amazing how "normal" the car sounds under slight throttle, but when you put the pedal down you can wake the neighbors!

However, no more mentioning of your ricer days. OK? When you bought the RX-8 you unknowingly promised to leave them in the past. JK...sort of

Hey NVMYGT, what do you think of that Umnitza/Simota intake? I have an offer to buy it very lightly used (bout a week) for $120 plus shipping. I've read it sounds great but there have been issues with CELs and even horsepower loss. I think the intake looks fantastic but I don't want to spend money to make my 8 even slower.

don't forget to trick your k&n w/ a few more easy mods.....

1- bypass the coolant line that runs through the throttle body
2- disable VFAD by disconnecting the green harness
3- disconnect the oil breather vaccuum hose & attach a breather on the oil reservoir & a rubber cap at the intake

Man, just came back in here to read an old thread when I first got my rx8 years ago... I miss that car. I learned so much from this thread, just wanted to drop in and say hi to the community. I'm over at the rx7club thread now for my fc. Sold my turbo rx8 years ago, funny that I wasn't really ready for turbos when I first posted on here. That car sucked a lot of money from me but so many memories and happiness.

Take care guys and drive safe.
