I have an A/T. And I've owned much faster cars. What's wrong with the Rx-8's A/T? I've had no issues with it. As for VW, I'd never buy one. If someone said they'd trade me a new '06 GTI for my '05 A/T Rx-8 I would never consider it. I think I bought the best car in the $25,000 price range. I could've spent $28-$32,000 for the 6 speed but I got such a good deal on my A/T. Why would someone spend the extra money to bring it the track and get beat by cheaper cars like the SRT-4?? I personally almost traded my A/T in for a M/T but after test driving the M/T I realized that it didn't feel faster off the line at all unless you launched it. The 0-60 w/out launch is definetly NOT 5.9 seconds I don't care what any of you claim. They both feel really slow off the line without the launch of the M/T.

My M/T feels fast, and I'm a previous manual Mustang GT owner (1998).

I actually kind've like the GTI though......Nah. I don't know, if I were gonna switch to a M/T, it's gotta really blow away my A/T, more than what I felt in the M/T 8. I'm waiting on the Mazdaspeed 3. I drove the Mazdaspeed 6 and that thing felt WAY faster than the M/T 8, is it faster 0-60. I got absolutlely glued to the seats off the line.

My next adventure was gonna be taking RX-8 to autocrossing... Should I even bother?

Since it's so slow... great handling that RX-8 supposely have probably will not make up for its lack of speed. My commute route doesn't have any twisties either... so never get to take my RX-8 through corners either. I should bring it to twisty mountain roads in south carolina for fun...

If it's going to bother you when you get whooped then don't bother. If you just want to go, have fun, and not care about where you place go for it.

I think the general consensus on the forum would be that you should quit your job and move to somewhere with twisties. I mean, let's get our priorities in order here.

You always have cute little things dancing around, I think that that's the only reason I tolerate your hatred towards my car. HAHA

lots of non A/T owners hate A/T 8's. It's an embarassingly slow car for 34k (new and fully loaded).

What is normal quarter mile time for auto ? If 17.8 second is NORMAL time for auto RX-8 I might think of getting a new car.
If you bought an 8 looking for a quarter-mile racer, then sorry, you bought the wrong car. The 8 is an autocross machine. If drag racing is your thing, sell it and get an American V8.

What's the quarter mile time for manual RX-8s? I want to test drive one to see if I feel like switching over to manual. It is pretty much set in stone that I won't waste my time taking AUTO RX-8 to the track.

Also, I didn't see single RX-8 at the track... Not even manual ones. I was the sole RX-8 and there were a lot of people out tonight. So I guess even manual RX-8 are not coming out to play. On the other hands, track was infested with SRT-4s... they are multiplying like a virus...
That's becasue the RX8 is NOT a drag race car- any IDIOT that did any research at all about the car prior to buying it would know this.

Now, get thee to an autocross or a proper road course and you will be quite happy. This car is designed to go quickly around corners, brake well in advance of them, and accelerate smartly to the next corner. I'm sure the designers didn't even think of the neanderthals that would drag race it.

most commonly used by bench racers. Any intelligent person would go drive the car, not make their decision based on magazine times.

I saw a video of a turboed AT RX-8 vs a stock MT RX-8. The manual 6 speed spanked the auto, even though the auto was turboed.

Polak ran mid 14's with a stock MT RX-8 though, if you were curious. He did do a high rpm clutch drop iirc.

how many people can pull off a high rpm clutch drop effectively? its exceedingly difficult to do right. without it the manual is right up there with the auto running 16, 17s 1/4 mile... cut this guy some slack... there sure is a lot of folks that normaly downplay 1/4 mile when rx8 is compared to other cars, now some of those same people are bragging about the superiority of their manual in the 1/4 mile vs the auto...

hell.. if acceleration isnt important, rx8 is not about acceleration. why are you guys blasting the auto?
