Delivery Date?

I just order my RX8 on Saturday (Jan. 25). The dealer that took my deposit said that the car would be here in late April. After reading some of the projected dates on here, I started to wonder if the April ETA was true. I thought maybe it was a sales tactic to persuade me to order. So I called my dealer back today and spoke with the Sales Manager. He too said that late April/Early May was the expected delivery date. He also said that 9 cars were coming in, 6 of which are pre-orders and 3 that are to be sold on the floor. He knows I already ordered the car, so I cannot imagine why he would lie. Is this possible? I live in Florida, although I can't think of any reason whywe would get ours earlier.

What date(s) were you all told?

This certainly is a topic of debate. There have been lots of dates flying around. Personally, my dealer has said my car will be built the first week of April. Originally he was saying I would have the car in june/july but his thinking was that he was leaning on the earlier side. Since the former is the more recent information, do these dates in the process coincide or has the date in fact been pushed forward? Does anybody have a good idea of the transition time from off the factory floor to the customers hands? how long does it take them to get them to the US (or elsewhere)?

At this point, I would think the delivery date is still primarily speculation. It could indeed be as early as april, but it could just as well be late june to early july.

If anyone with good information has firm dates however, I am ALL ears

Well, I just got a call from my dealer a few minutes ago. I had called him earlier to switch my color from Titanium to Red. He called to tell me that 9 cars are for sure coming in April. He said that if I want to keep the Titanium I could get it then, or if I wanted the red I would have to wait until May/June. I was kind of on the fence about the red, so I went back to the Titanium. It seems that they ARE getting them in April... mmmm... Titanium goodness... *drool*

I suppose everything comes out first in the US. UK orders are not to be confirmed until Feb for delivery in July.

That was todays message when I wanted to know the last date I could change colour.

All I can say is the sooner the better. I have a 99 Miata to sell and the closer they push the delivery date out of "Prime Rag Top Season" the harder it is going to be for me to sell my car. ARRRGGGGG!!!!

Basically, it breaks down like this. If you are just now putting a pre-order, it will not be ordered until February's pre-order window, which means it will be in the second batch (or allocation, whatever you want to call it). The only way you would be getting yours in the first allocation is if one of the "extra" cars the dealer ordered matches your specs, and he gives you that one. Which leads to the obvious question...what are the delivery dates?

Well, that IS subject to debate, but the last official statement was June sometime for the first allocation. Doesn't mean it can't be earlier or later, though. It seems to change every week, and every time a MNAO exec opens his mouth. That's not a gripe or a slam, just the reality of the situation. Hopefully in the next few weeks more solid info will come out.

I was told June and maybe a little earlier (I'm hopin). Because you are in Florida you may get a car sooner than the rest of the east coast. Mazda brings the East Coast cars into Jacksonville.

We will just have to wait and see what info the email us about the cars in the coming weeks.

Response I got from Mazda Today:

""Currently, the estimated release time of the RX-8 is July of 2003. Please keep in mind that this is only an estimated time frame, thus the actual release time may vary. "

I live in the great City of Tampa, Florida, home of the Superbowl Champion Bucs. I haven't heard mention of anyone getting delivery anytime sooner than June/July. The production isn't even suppossed to start until April. That would be if they are right on schedule.

Good luck to all though.

Renesis production began today

January 29, 2003

Mazda Motor Corporation today commenced production of its newly developed RENESIS* rotary engine at its Ujina plant.

This is from an *official* Mazda press release. It still doesn't tell us when we might actually get our cars, but it is good to know that production has begun (at least on the engines).
