I see you did the math already and came to the same conclusion as I.. have a second car. It's also cheaper on the insurance.

RX-8 alone to insure was $1485 per year.

RX-8 + junker car together: $1310 per year.

Drive daily. Drive it all over, whatever excuse I can find. Had the car over a month with about 1400 miles on it. Had the M-Flash based on info I read here. No other maintenance or issues.

Drive 76 miles RT with my RX-8, which has 15,000+ miles.

Oils changes every 2,500 miles, had the "L" reflash back in 2/04 for PE420 CEL Code, no other issues.

Love driving her to work & back. That was a major reason why I wanted an upgrade, so I could enjoy the drive during my commute.

Average 21.6 mpg.

I drive it everyday. I bought it a month ago as a demo with 3000 miles. It was one of the original builds as I remember seeing it in the dealership the day they came out. I had the M reflash and an oil change done when I took delivery and have put almost 2000 miles on it in the last month. I've been averaging around 18+ mpg in mixed driving and a high of 24 mpg in pure highway. No problems excpet for occasional , intermittant rattles/buzzes in the doors which don't last long enough for the dealer to hear them. Overall I'm very satisfied.

This has been asked before so you can find out previous posters comments.

But I too am daily driver, since 8/8/03 I have 17,800 miles. Oil changes and recalls fixed. Had 2 burnt coils that where replaced.

At the end of the year my daily commute will be 92 miles a day minimum. Right now it's about 4 miles unless I spend the night at my fiance's house. Except for the damn gas prices going up every day, I have no major complaints, and just a couple minor ones.

I have had it for six months and now have 1100 miles on it. It had to have a new put in engine at 600 miles for a coolant leak. Got the new engine 2 months ago and only 100 miles to go until it is broken in.It is one of my weekend toys.

I got the M flash about 2 weeks ago.

I just rolled over 7000 miles on my Black '8 today, and I have had it since March 23rd. It sat at the dealer for a week while I was on a business trip (went in for an oil change as I was only going to be gone a couple days, but that turned into a full week long excursion). Also sat for 2 weekends when i drove my Hiway cruizer across the state (Dodge Intrepid).

My commute is about 35 miles each way (70 miles/day), and I love to just go out and waste gas driving around :-P

Daily 35 mile one way commute, 17k miles, still loving it. No major problems. M flash raised mpg at least 3. Driving more conservativly added another 5 mpg. My biggest concern is the huge number of paint chips and windshield chips I have. I guess it's chip conducive to drive at the speeds I do. Oh well, prior to my 8 the fastest I could go was about 105, it was an 86 camaro where the speedo topped out at 85, I judged the peg to be about 95 and calculated top speed by stopwatch to be 105. Now I can easily see 105 on the speedo whenever I want. It's addictive.

So do I. My wife hates it. A couple of weekends ago she actually counted how many errands (and how long I was gone) between get home time Friday night and get up time Monday morning.

Good luck with this. I have the same squeaking noise, but they swear they can't hear it. Or if they can, they say its due to low-octane gas. What a smoke screen!

Only had my car a few weeks. Drive it daily. My commute is only about 2 miles. But I often find myself driving it for no good reason all over the city. I'm at about 850 miles with no problems.

Daily driver for me. 4900 miles since I got it Dec 6. My commute is only 3 miles each way so I do most of the driving when the old lady wants to go shopping and run errands just so I can let my baby stretch her legs.....

Got mine August last...just clicked over 22K on the speedo.

I have had both sun visors replaced, a sqeak in the dash fixed, the heating shield tightened because of clanging rattle underneath, a rattle in the sterring column fixed, and the usual oil changes at 3K and tires rotated at 6K.

I drive 100 miles per day in her, and am getting combo 24 MPG.

Even though this is a helluva squeak and rattletrap, I am very happy with her and have no doubt the rotary will stand up to this kind of milage.

not my daily driver - got it July 03'. 6100 Miles - most for fun. 3 Road Trips worth about 3000 miles and 3100 miles in Minneapolis. The winter here blows hard, so if I could drive it daily I would. Have an MP5 for the daily stuff. Daily is 6 miles though - so - I don't drive much anymore

7200 since January 7th. That does include a 1200 mile road trip last weekend though. Drive about 11 miles to work everyday. Didn't think I'd put this many miles on it at first, but I can't stay out of it.

15553 mi since 08/2003, daily commute to/from work is about 6 miles. I do alot of errands, just so I can get behind the wheel. Airbag + Damper recalls, 5000 mi maintenance schedule, add oil at every other fillup, snow tires went on at about 8,000 mi mark and are almost ready to come off (hey it's not June yet here in Ohio, it still may snow!).

I drive my RX-8 almost every day. If I don't work on the weekends, which is rare, we take my wife Honda Civic. I drive about 30 miles a day when I drive to work. With 1360 miles on it, the only maintanance I have done so far is washing. Other than this, the only thing this car will see in the next few years is regular schedule maintanance.

Weekdays to current workplace: 38 miles roundtrip.

A couple of long roadtrips to Florida -- took the back roads Awesome car for long trips, BTW

4900 miles so far. Changed oil and filter once already, will change again soon, along with tire rotation, "green" air filter, and diffy/tranny oil change (to Redline synth). No other services.

Average ~19mpg in mixed driving w/ occasional high rpms.

Will take the car for some "service adjustments" next week: defroster/defogger button crack, possible defogger malfunction (bottom 2 "lines" don't appear to be functioning), and "M" flash. No other issues.

Will be going to DC in July for a new assignment. Will be commuting completely via metro bus and/or rail, hiking or biking (keeping a locker at the office).
