Crying as I Traded In My RX8
Darn family come first and we needed a van. Wow what a change from the 8 to a van! But I retired and moved to be near my son's family and needed a car that could carry 6. Purchased a 2010 Chrysler Town and Country.
Wanted to sell the 8 to someone that would love it, but didn't allow enough time, so traded it in. The dealer only gave me $9,000 (2004 grand touring blue with 58,000 miles and excellent condition).
Had a RX7 before the RX8. Had a RX7, Rotary PU, and a RX4 before that. Unusual that I don't have a rotary.
By y-all and have fun. I will be thinging about all the great RX8s out there.

The lesson I've learned is, don't start a family.
In every "goodbye rx8" I have read over the years, they are trading/loosing the rx8 for either:
1. an inferior class of vehicle, business sedan
2. an inferior class of vehicle, sports sedan
3. an inferior grade of sports coupe
Never, never does anyone trade an rx8 in, and actually upgrade to a superior sports coupe. Never.

Man, I feel for you. I went the opposite direction. I was driving a Toyota van for 10 years before everything started to break down. We went to get a small suv (already had the big cx-9 as a main car), but the salesman said that there's a great deal on a RX-8 and that we needed a fun car since we already had the cx-9. When the wife agreed, I jumped at the opportunity. So happy with the 8. I didn't realize how much fun I was missing when I drove the van...

Sorry that you had to say good-bye to the 8. Why not get the Mazda 5? At least you'd still have some zoom-zoom in your life and they're not that bad of a van. (Zoom-zoom live let me appreciate the whole Mazda lineup a little more)
The question that poses in my head is what would trading up to a non-inferior class be? I'm just curious what kinds of cars you have in mind. I believe the 8 is a great "everyday driver's" car, as I'm sure any one of us would agree.
Maybe one day you'll get your hands on another rotary. The addiction will always be there, so maybe you'll relaps.

You're not alone OP. I was on the highway some time back, going to see a Camaro. Cried the entire journey there.
I wanted something bigger, but I was already addicted to the Zoom-Zoom the RX-8 gave me, so I bought a MazdaSpeed6 instead.
Good luck OP. You'll be back some day. I know I'll be back with the doritos as soon as Mazda releases a new generation of rotary sports cars.

I'm going to keep this post for a couple years so I can be the first to upgrade to a superior sports coupe.
