It's a Cavalier
u obviously didn't read my last post. The place that I'm having the work done told me they'd try to save my a couple of dollars an hour on the deductible not like hundreds and they're very reputable actually. Some of my distant family has had work done there and was very satisfied plus my college gets all of their vehicles doen by them when they have needs for repairs. But Ya I should around Tuesday or so what's gonna happen so I'll let eveyone know. U guys should start a bet on whether they total it or not lol..........
You wiped out, admitted it's your own fault, and you want a few bucks back for your mistake? You can roll like that, but I don't.
Yes. I'm perfect.
I bet it's totalled, so this isn't worth arguing, I guess.

Wow, u guys really think it's totalled? It looks like pretty much everything in the rear end needs replaced but totalled, I don't think so. Atleast I hope I'm right. I decided to leave it where it's at and let them do it because 1) They've been in business for way longer than the preferred shop 2) My granpda lives down the street from the owner and they're real good friends 3) I have family and friends that have work done with them and have always been satisfied and 4) my stepdad made a good point about how most of the work is going to be cosmetic and that I won't have this car for a whole lot longer so I don't really need to worry needing that guarantee since I will probably only have the car for another 5 years or so and that these guys have a proven track record so chances of something going wrong are slim to none.
But ya the rear tires were alot balder than I had realized from being a dumbass and doing donuts frequently in the last 2 months so I was doing around 70 on the freeway yesterday and fishtailed, lost control and blasted the guardrail with the rear end. Amazingly the car from the rear wheels up were not scratched. I'll keep this thread updated with what happens though, thanks for advice.

I've never owned a tangible item I loved as much as I love that car and for you to tell me otherwise is definately asinine.

uh....i think you hate your car. 1. you abused it 2. you don't care about a guarantee to fix your effed up car
what if someone else buy's this car after you are done abusing it? I feel sorry for that person.

Wow really? Okay several people on here have already confirmed my orignial thoughts of that guarantee being bullshit which it is. The shop PRogressive wants me to take it to are known for using used parts. The owner of the shop I'm having do the work has already assured me he'll either use OEM or aftermarket parts approved by me. And he's good friends with my grandpa which only adds the probability of the work being done right so WTF am I being chastised for? Anyway I'm done with this thread thanks to those of you with something actually intellectual to say.

You do come across as if you dont care when you say things like I don't need a guarantee because i'm not going to keep it long. If you say things like that you are gonna get flamed. No reason to run off in a tantrum.
If you know a shop that does very good wook than that is good enough. It's not like your going to macco. As long as it's getting fixed properly and not just covered up so you can sell it. Witch I don't think is the case since you said you were going to keep it 5 years.
I took the money from my accident and bought the parts myself and took it to a shop of my choice instead of the insurance guarateed one so i know what you mean.

...The shop Progressive wants me to take it to are known for using used parts...
When a fender needed to be replaced on my Honda, I muttered to the adjuster about wanting a genuine Honda part. He told me they had located a good used fender at a junkyard, so no worry - I'd be getting a real Honda part.
When my wife's Toyota got hit and needed a fender, I was able to talk GEICO into springing for a genuine Toyota fender rather than aftermarket. I was willing to cover the difference myself if necessary. An amusing sidelight is that a used fender cost almost twice what an OEM fender did.
Your original post left out the part that the body shop owner is good friends with your grandpa, and that you'd already talked to him about parts. IMHO, actually knowing the shop, and the quality of work they do, counts for more than anything else.
Keep an eye on whatever aftermarket parts are offered. If it's substituting cool body kit stuff, great. But if it's a made-in-China substutute standard body panel, check into the quality.

Well alot of u were right...They're totalling it :`(```
I guess the estimates are totalling out to over 75% of the BB which means thats a green flag to total it. So I gotta take what I get and go finance something else. I could get another RX8 and believe me I want to but I wanna be more rational with this purchase and stick to a V4. Any suggestions in that area? What are some of the quicker affordable v4's out there? I'd love a civic SI but that would cost me more than another rx-8 and I like the look of TC's kinda but heard they're real slow. Thanks for input as always........

Of course you don't have to use the insurers preferred shop, but I don't get why people wouldn't since it's usually a win win for both parties. As for those who scream bullshit, other than just posturing, give me the logic...
Fact is, in most cases, the customer wins 'cause they get a reputable shop that's been checked out by the insurer based on industry standards, gets their car back quicker since there's a clear service level agreement in terms of quality and time of repairs, and has a third party (the insurer) to leverage in case there's a dispute with the repair.
The insurer gets back a client that on average has a higher satisfaction rating, get their car back sooner therefore saving on rental fees, sometimes saves on appraisal fees, and ensures that the shop adheres to body shop standards in labor costs.
A win-win, no?
The only other suggestion I'd have is go to your dealership where you buy and service your vehicle, again leveraging that relationship, and have them suggest a bodyshop.
Fact is, you want leverage if you're not happy with a repair - it's simple business logic. A body shop's "satisfaction guarantee" is BS and is based on nothing. They'll only respond if they are afraid of loosing a relationship with an insurer or a car dealer.
