So I just got a switchblade key for my '04. I originally only had a valet key and wanted a 'regular' key cut so I had to get it cut through the vin at the dealer. I told the service tech the situation and he said he will have it cut through the vin. When i got the new key back, it was still a valet key. It did not work on the glovebox/storage box/trunk. It did work on the door and ignition.

I told the tech this and he 'claims' to have pulled up the vin and cut it like that. So has anyone ever goten their key cut with the vin and got a valet key out of it?

 

bump, trying to find out if the dealer is bs'ing me because he doesn't want to cut me a new key.

 

It shouldn't matter whether he cut the key from the VIN or not. What matters is that he made a key that doesn't work. Doesn't the dealer have a policy of guaranteeing their work?
