don't take it that you shouldn't ask questions. that's what the forum is for. the bothersome questions are mpg threads, oil, rx-8 vs. anything, flood threads, and basically anything that is a sticky thread. you can always get clarification but if you ask a question that could have been found by reading the sticky threads or just poking around, you have potential to get flamed.

that being said, if you throw on a suit and get flamed a bit and keep asking informative questions, people tend to lay off and help out. but if you go in swinging with a question like "i'm new and i like the 8. what is it all about? i hear there are problems. what are those problems?" prepare yourself. you seem like you have a good head on your shoulders and ask the right questions so ask away. worst case you get some razzing but usually you'll be okay.

I knew I would more than likely get flamed, however, over four pages of information is appreciated.

The reason I asked these questions is because I couldn't find certain pieces of information.

So I have learned:
- Get an Extended Warranty
- Carfax or dealer information on all recalls TSB's etc.
- Don't bitch about the possible problems, if it breaks they will fix it.
- Relax

 

Folks I believe he has got it. My advice is to shut up, get in, drive the !##$%#%W$ thing then make your own decision.

I have owned 6 rotary powered cars, 4 were runners, two were parts only. Ran the F__k outta all of them and never had more than a smoked clutch or small amount of carb troubles.

Every car is a piece of **** waiting for a stupid owner or a jewel waiting to be owned by a smart loving owner.
I hope you get an 8, there is no other car that I have owned that causes me to find ways to drive it.

 

extended warranty is up to you. i personally never buy one but i know there are many that won't buy used without it. it's how the dealers make their money to cover those that will never need it but it's a little piece of added insurance to put under your pillow to help you sleep at night if you need it. once you've test driven one you'll have to let us know how it turned out.

 

Typically, the monster 12 page threads are abourt why-and get this-someone didn't or isn't going to purchase an RX8.

Just remember work, where your mistakes are the only things that are remembered. Classic human model--happens at work, happens at cyberspace. Love it.

So here's my best advice for car purchasing--if it doesn't look good enough to purchase by looks alone, it's not worth purchasing. I knew nothing technical about the RX8, only that I would get it on looks alone, which I did. Luck is what matters here people, not common sense. Research becomes useless with a lemon in your lap. I cannot stress that enough. Nothing that you will read is going to affect the reliability of the actual car VIN that you will, by chance, end up purchasing.

Used cars--you can carfax it, apply educated guesses, but the engine has other plans. It doesn't care, it is. And you will not know how long it is going to last until it's all said and done.

I've learned that philosophy, live it, drive it, and inject it. I read an article on the Mitsubishi Prototype, yet by the photo there's nothing at all about the styling that indicates that it is a prototype concept at all. Looks just like another tired old Evo--the 1987 Toyota Corolla hatchback look is here to stay.

Others will flame on the extended warranty's wasted money, but i'm pro-warranty myself. Covered for 100K/7 years? Peace of mind to me... worth more than the price.

oh yea, one word of advice though...make sure it is a MAZDA warranty, NOT 3rd party. 3rd party warrantys ARE NOT worth the money!

 

yes, mistakes are remembered more than anything. however, i don't believe that it is all in the luck. yes, if you are unlucky enough to get a lemon there isn't much you can do. but i still feel that a lot of it is how you drive it and maintain others so that you don't put yourself out there to make a mistake. checking/adding oil, driving it to 9K, and not pulling it out of the garage and shutting down cold are all precautions to take with a car that needs just a little extra TLC. not to say that if you don't do any of that you'll run into issues but you'll reduce your exposure (or bad luck).

Have an O5, since May - only problem was a battery beaten up by unusually cold weather - dealer replaced it - I have seen Othersides Silver - it is a beauty! Hope damage very very minimal!

I would not trade this car for any other out there - But sit in it first, make sure it fits, try both the stick and the automatic/stick. Find out history on the car before the buy - they just fished one out of a canal - make sure all the updates are made by the dealer, then with great fear and caution, drive it, and then drive something else, and then suddenly you will know that This is the car you always wanted and your students will go nuts and you will have to protect it from them!!!!

it started out rough by the question asked and how it was asked but once it was all said and done i think it turned out okay.

 

Drive one and then say that. The rotary makes this car distinct and a unique experience (to drive and to own). More reasons to love it.

ME too! thats why I have Very close to 11k miles on mine and bought her new, with 125 miles on her in July of 06.
