Clutch parts and labor!?!?

I was quoted at an auto shop $1,200 for parts and labor for a clutch job.
800 being the parts alone... and around 400 for labor.
I think they're trying to rip me off. Any insight on this would help. He even said, "That's why I wouldn't buy this car"
The labor sounds reasonable but the parts sounds outrageous if you ask me.

I'm going to the Mazda dealership for their quote.

They sound stupid cause the clutch is nothing special it's your typical manual transmission clutch job. It's the engine core of course that's different. As others suggest, buy the better parts and find another shop.
