Since I went Turbo, my check engine went on. The car feels fine, but the light bothers the hell out of me. Last night, when I went out... The light was OFF!!!! I got so excited, I drove it super soft, no boost at all. Then I got into the canyon and after a couple of mins. I think i went into boost, then there it went again. the light went on. Maybe it was just an insane cowincidence, but now, this has got me thinking that its the boost triggering the light?? Sounds weird, but you never know. The light happened when I installed the BOV. Bleh, I just need a tune (this week) Im still waiting on that mid pipe.

Side Note: I was at big bear this past weekend for the holliday and when I went to drive my car the next morning, some new light came on in my car and beeped. I have never seen this light in my life. It was a yellow light shapped like a "U" with 5 little dots under it touching it and i Think an "!" sign in the middle. (it wasnt the e brake) I figured it was because the car was almost Frozen, but after it heated up, the light went away.... took a good 5 mins or so to go away though... I'll have to look into what that light means.

Romeo....light is probably a too rich code.....get the code pulled and check it out. It's OK to throw a code all the time if you know what it is.....but if you don't you could have a big problem ........before it goes bang!

yeah, I AM running Rich, Im gonna have that changed this week also, i think... i hope. AND, I just looked up on the online manual for what that light was...... that light that came on was a "Tire Pressure Monitoring System Warning Light" humm......... why would it go on only when I go to the mountains? could it be because of the altitude?

at least i know what it is now :D

thanks Dannobre.

Tire pressure light goes on easily. The TP will vary a lot based on tire temps...about 1 lb for 8-9 degrees of temp difference. If you fill them up in a warm place....and go colder they will drop pressure.....and it doesn't take much difference to set the light.

The CEL will probably still set even when you are tuned with a Turbo.....the ECU expects an A?F lower than where you will tune it.

Buy a cheap scanner....esp if you are turboed. It is cheap insurance and piece of mind

I have an AEM UEGO Controller.......... its all installed already, accept for the actual sensor, haha. Im waiting on that stupid Mid pipe to arrive (today) so that I can have it all installed.

Hey, thanks so much for the help though, it gives me more room to breathe.

another thing you might be able to help with...

my car is running perfect except for this 1 little thing that bugs/scares me.
when i run boost, whatever, its fine, but sometimes...... when i floor it, i hear a bit of a grinding sound. not like clutch, but like.... kinda like that sound you hear when a dentist is pulling your wisdom teeth out with a wrench. it hasnt happened for a long time (because i havent floored it) but I think it only happened when the car wasnt fully hot. Im not sure, have you ever heard of anything like this?

(p.s. sorry for being a thread crook)

Wastegate opens when the turbo reaches the boost level that you want, and bypasses some of the exaust to slow down the turbo...it will happen mostly when to floor it.......depending on the setup...there are a few things that make noises with that area...

it makes the sound as im still accelerating. not as I let go of the gas.

its like, "vroooooooooooooooo kkkkkkkkkk, (bov)psssssssststststs"

It makes me think that something is coming loose or something.
like I said, it only does it sometimes when i floor it. but not RIGHT when i floor it, but as it reaches like 5k RPM. doubt its the wastegate.

Unless the wastegate releases AS im still accelerating. I dont know much about that stuff...
but it doesent sound normal.

When it 1st happened. I was with my friend and he was driving next to me in his Evo. and he heard it and said, "Dude, whats up with your shifting? i heard your clutch grind" but i was completley off the clutch. its odd.

i'll ask my mechanic today. over at Yimi Sports.

Im never going back to Tri-point anymore. one of my friends got fired from there for coming over my house to help me install my turbo. Tri-point sucks anyway.

but thanks again for the help. Please keep feeding me with more of your skill(z).

Funny story.

ok, so Ive had my engine light on for like 2 or 3 weeks like I had said, my car hasnt been acting weird or feeling funny. but I read somewhere about people having issues because of their gas cap not being on tight? thats Retarded..... But today, i pumped gas... and just for the **** of it, i clicked it like 4 or 5 times. Got in my car................... No Engine light..... w0w, I was like No Way...

So I step on it a bit to go into boost..... still no light!!
I made it all the way to work this morning with no lights on my Dash!

god, it felt good.

Could it really be because of that?
weird.

thats so funny.

I never knew it was THAT bad not to tighten.
Infact, i thought it was bad to "click" it.

I would always Click it once only.

damn, this is tight.
Im having a good day now.

My CEL has not turned on since I made sure to tightened the gas cap. I make sure to "click" it about 5 to 8 times. It's funny to see people's reactions at the gas stations when I am making all those clicking noises.

Classic....

I've got less than 300 miles on my '07 RX-8. Check engine light on? I'm taking it to the dealer ship but it would be nice to know before hand what's going on with it... Dealer can't see me 'til tomorrow, so it's a bummer waiting for the diagnosis....

*Can anyone recommend a "code reader" for a newbie owner that barely know his butt from a hole in the ground.

Thanks.

it pisses me off how that stupid light makes me look stupid. The light was off all day, and at night when I was on my way to my GFs house with the good news......... a block before getting to her house, it lights up again.

Then, the other day, I was driving with the light on all day and i was on my way to my friends shop so that he can run the test to see why its on..... and sure enough, on my way over there it turns off and stays off.

when I have nobody to show it to, its on ALL DAY! ALL WEEK! ALL MONTH!

but the min that im about to do something about it, it turns off....

humm.... I better take it to get looked at tonight (shhhhhhh, play along)

POS light.

I just got mine back from the shop for CEL and a couple of other things. The first 3 visits to the shop for this all they did was reflash the comp and it came back in 700-800 miles. This last time I went to a different dealer where they replace a sensor and my gas cap. They said my sensor was faulty, and that there is a better gas cap available now that they are having less problems with. I've only gone about 50 miles so far, so I won't know for sure if it worked for awhile yet, but others on the board have tried both solutions. What seems to hardly ever work is what the dealers do the most - reflash your computer and send you on your way.

Quick update; Mazda are doing a buy back. I'm fed up. Dealer fed up with dealing with me, and same reset every time...

Gonna get into a 2007 Mazdaspeed 6 I think... grow up a little... something a little more utilitarian would be good ;-) If I can get over the clutch concerns... to be honest it feels similar to the 8 with clutch release.
