Check Engine??

I just got my rx8 a few days ago and it had the check engine light on, well I ran into the computer and got code PO301 I searched google and got this site http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_cod...e-detected.php what would you guess it is...I reset the code and the light hasnt come back yet? Also today I turned the vehicle on and I had no power steering so I drove about 20 feet down the road turned it off and then on again anyone else heard of this? any help would be greatly appreciated

turn the steering wheel all the way left and then all the way right. you have the reset it when you clear the nvram.

if you keep getting misfires, change the plugs, go to autozone and get rx7 plugs. $5-6 each. don;t blow 130 for 4 plugs on the iridiums it's not worth it.

Not sure if my new topic worked so heres another question putting fuel injector cleaner in gasoline any risks?

nycgps 11-15-2006 06:23 PM

P0301 Front rotor misfire detected Flash/ON 1 or 2 Misfire

Engine misfire could be alot of stuff, it could be as simple as bad gas, or something serious that requires engine replacement.

but most likely theres something wrong with your plugs(foul) or Coil dying.

Dealership can check it with easy.

if you are underwarrenty i'd take it to the dealership...just had my plugs, spark plug wires adn ignition coild (all 4) done. my car had 59,402 miles on it :)

odd though b/c it was in for a different cel (intake runner stuck open)...but when they fixed that one the miss fire codes came up...oh well.

i do it abhout 2 times every oil change (so about every 1000 - 1250 miles)

no issues b/c of it. others have added FP60 on here...do a search and you can see what they think of it.

well last month I purchased a 04 Rx-8 and just this morning the check engine light came on as soon as I turned the ignition. I got out of the car and retightened the gas cap hoping that this might solve my problem. Well it didn't, so I drove the car for about a 7 mile stretch going about 45 mph and I didn't notice any odd noises or any other thing different with the car. I turned the car off and let it sit for a few minutes so that I could check the oil level. I took out the dipstick and the oil level was just a little bit between the halfway mark. I decided to add 1/4 of oil to the engine. As soon as I did add the oil I went back to turn on the car and the check engine light was gone. --oh and before I added the oil I made sure to check the oil gauge in the instrument panel and it was marking between half and full. Could the light have been on because the car needed oil?

RX8USMC 11-17-2006 05:02 PM

blades

Blades, Mines reading between the half and full too I will try that tommorow. Also my car didnt come with a manual so what do you suggest for oil type? and since I dont know what kind is in there now will mixing be an issue?

Blades 11-17-2006 05:25 PM

yeah I used Castrol GTX 5w-20

Rotarctica 11-17-2006 05:39 PM

Let me just say...

The RX-8 does not need a 'Check Engine' light.

...it needs a 'See Dealer' light.

stupid gas cap usually trips it. Mine hates it when it is cold outside. Every morning it'll trip the light. I need to take it in for the recall anyway, so I'm going to have them look at the gas cap too.

Hey dude, my 04 didn't have a manual with it either. However, as I learned from folks on this website, you can go to www.mazdausa.com and click on the owners tab & register your car. You can then access a .PDF version of your car manual.

Rotarctica 11-17-2006 07:40 PM

When you get gas, make sure you spin that cap on it's ratchet a good ten clicks. My mom used to have her check engine light come on constantly because she didn't do this.

arghx7 11-17-2006 10:40 PM

my retarded sister had her check enginge light come on in her Cavalier because of the gas cap, but she of course took it to the dealer and paid an $80 diagnostic fee.

nycgps 11-18-2006 12:30 AM

For most modern cars :

Gas Cap not tight = EVAP leak = Check Engine Light = 1 minute to fix it.

Paul_in_DC 11-19-2006 07:30 AM

All RX-8's should come with a "CEL Reset" button.

Check out my post on this thread https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...1&page=2&pp=15

I've been having constant P300/301 codes. Ever 400 miles or so.

I'm really frustrated and can't be bothered with the car any more - I've loved her but this is just too much of a hassle. Way I see it is I shouldn't have to go buy a scanalyser and self diagnose when there is clearly something wrong with the car to be registering a P300 when there is no rotar misfire... Its only got 12K miles on it, I'm enthusiastic about my car and don't mind involved oil checking process but this seems symptomatic of a deeper problem.

By by RX8 hello MAZDASPEED 3... that's the plan any way.

Paul_in_DC 11-22-2006 07:25 AM

If you have that problem so often, the lemon laws apply. See http://www.carlemon.com/

Woodgie 11-22-2006 11:53 AM

Thanks Paul - I'm working with the local Mazda rep to resolve this amongst ourselves without dragging lawyers into it. However I would, at the drop of the hat if Mazda treat me badly. So far they have been decent, a bit on th slow side tho - after this holiday weekend I'm going to be pushing for a swift resolution.

ucleadguitar 11-23-2006 05:05 PM

I really think they should have at least made the CEL a Rotor shape. They went through all the trouble of putting little Rotor shapes all over the car but they couldnt do it to the CEL...now thats one CEL that I wouldn't mind driving with. People be whats that light mean...I'd be like its reminding me I have a Rotary...REV IT UP!

xrider 11-26-2006 08:27 AM

I had my check engine light come on last week. Took it in Friday the 17th. They claimed it was a loose gas cap. Three days later it came back on. Took it in Saturday the 25th. They did a smoke test that revieled there is a EVAP leak somewhere.

I had installed a sub box in the trunk prior to these check engine lights, and mounted the box at the bottom of the trunk floor with two 3/4" screws one one each side through the floor. Could I have punctured something to cause the light? I don't know if anything is mounted directly under the trunk area or not, I don't have my car to look. The dealer will attempt to locate the leak on Monday. They haven't looked for it yet since I took the car in late Saturday.

RX8Sick 11-26-2006 09:08 AM

the oil gauge does not reflect oil levels.

FlyLow 11-26-2006 09:28 AM

I was wondering when someone was going reply oil gauge in reflects oil pressure not oil level.
