Catching Rocks

The tires on my 8 pick up every small pile of stones or road work I drive over, no matter how small. YOu'd think these things were magnetic. I am sure I am not only one who has experienced it, but it is already nicking up the sides and front of my car a bit. I was wondering if this goes away as tires get more miles on them. There is constant construction going on where I live so it's basically unavoidable, but quite annoying and damaging. If I run over the smallest pile, I have to put at 5mph for about a half mile before all the rocks finally leave tires. Just wondering who else is suffering this, and if it gets better as tires get older, or I simply need harder all seasons to avoid this. Thanks!!

Mine picks up coarse sand too. The sound of them hitting the wheel wells is sickening.

me too, especially after all the sanding done after the snow storms this winter. It has actually started nicking up my side aero flares in front of my rear wheels.

Thanks. Nice to know I am not only one. My rx8 is black, and the front, sides and side flares are already white speckled. Oh well, car is destined to get old and scraped up anyway. The winter driving really hurt me, as there was no way to avoid the pebbles and sand. I added front splash guards, but I figure once spring really arrives, and we get a lot of rain, much of it will wash away. I need to really watch where I am going though that's for sure. Car is meant to get beat up, so I'll survive. I guess when tires bald this will be less of a problem.

They had the same problems with the last generation RX7 especially on the first year where the paint was very prone to chipping - I guess big sticky tires + swoopy body shape + I can't drive this thing slow engine = what the heck happening to my paint.

The night I drove home from the dealership I almost freaked out after hearing all those rocks. I had images of my car chipped to hell when pulling into my garage! I've gotten used to it, and I don't notice that paint getting screwed up at all...yet.
