Car rental question

I dropped my rx8 off to have a motor mount replaced. The dealer says if the part is in stock then they pay for my rental. However, if the part needs to be ordered they dont pay for the rental. Seems very odd to me. Shouldnt they pay either way? Its not my fault.

Mazda's warranty covers a rental car for all work done under it

My experience with Mazda is that if it's a warranty repair, and they need your car for more than a day, they pay for it (regardless of whether of a part is in stock or not). Good luck dude.

It's not the dealer who pays for the rental - they will forward the charge to Mazda if it's warranty work.
I think this whole rental car thing is dependent on the dealer. Some are picky about it, others are not.
So far, i had no problem with my dealer - I always got a rental when they worked on my car.

Having worked for a car rental company that provided “ dealer replacement “ cars for multiple locations I would say the dealership does pay for the rental. Every two weeks we would run down to the dealership copies of the rental agreements and they would cut one check that would cover ALL the rentals over a given time. It was up to the dealership to get reimbursed by the automaker. I can only speak for the franchise I worked for but I was not given the impression it was a special deal we had.
