Car acting up a bit @2450 miles...

I only run the good stuff on my 8. I haven't done anything to the car yet besides add some oil. I've noticed the car seems to idel a bit unsmooth already and it's got less the 2500 miles on it. It's very light, its hard to here but I sort of feel it even tho its not enough to make the needle move around on the rpm's.

Yesterday night I went out to get some food and gas. It was about 80deg outside. 6 miles down the road was the gas station. I pulled in filled up, put the cap on till it clicked. tripped the odomiter and headed off. 2miles and 4 stop signs later I end up at a red light. As I'm sitting at the red light after a good 30 seconds the car just about shuts off. I dont know if it caught it or if I tapped the gas as it dropped off. It was long enough I was able to look down and the the RPM's drop to the 0-200 area, then shoot up to 1500ish and back to 900. According to the water temp it was running 2-3 in the cold side.

So far it hasn't done it again yet. I was sitting in a parking lot for a while with it running to see if it would happen again and nothing so far.
I just hope this isn't the start of the bad things I hear people talking about.

Probably not. When did you get it, what year/trans, and has it been reflashed?

Its a 2006, 6speed about 4 months old.
Unless it was flased before it was sold, it hasn't been flashed from the factory.

It's a MT.

I guess Ill just pull the plugs this weekend and look them over, check that they are in well and all.

Just kind of odd that something could happen like that on a such a new car.

Just about any car will stumble once in awhile, could have been something in the gas or a momentary hicup in fuel delivery. Frankly, I would just drive it and not do anything right now. By the way, the rotary will vibrate a little at idle, it is not like a well-balanced v-8. The smoothness people talk about is when accelerating.

My '05 MT RX-8 did that once, at around 2500 miles, at a stoplight after some spirited driving. I'm now at about 7000 miles and haven't seen it since, after a lot of driving variety (long boring HWY miles and short hard twisty miles). Most likely it's just a random event. If it happens repeatedly or stalls, take it in for warranty service. Nothing huge to worry about.

Agreed. Once your 8 is warmed up, it will idle just under 1000 rpm, which will cause the vibrating or if you want to call it a ruff idle.

Also, your 8 is past the break in period, so I would start hitting the redline. My 8 always seems to run smoother after I do that.
