ive been wondering how effective rx8 turbos are, i know they range from
300whp to 400, but i wana hear from those of you who have them, how does the car launch?? good bad or ok

i know it has no chance on a launch against the 4 wheel drive of the sti, but on a roll?

just thought it would be interesting.. ive waited to beat my friend

if all else fails, get a 4 rotor

 

depends on driver skill, type of turbo, condition of car.....too many variables.....i have beaten an sti and evo on nitrous so a turbo is far from out of the question

 

If both of you can drive an STI will kill a typical Turbo RX8 (like say you just slap on a standard Greddy kit) . On the street though anything is possible. Most of the Turbo RX-8's around my track are high 13 to low 14 second cars at best and the fastest I have seen was in the mid to low 13 range and he sold that car long ago and it was pretty modded in addition to the Turbo kit.

The STI will kill off the line.

My theory on a basic GReddy turbo RX8 vs stock STi

From a dig, probably not. An STi will murder an RX8 from a dead stop (its happened to me) and a GReddy kit spools up quickly (lots of potential wheel spin).

From a roll the RX8 has a big advantage. The STi's AWD actually works against it, as does its gearing. That and lets face it, an STi has the aerodynamic properties of a brick.

Just add a JATO engine to your 8 and you will be able to beat any car. Stopping will be you main problem... or maybe flying.

Keep dreaming buddy. Obviously you have never driven an STI on a track (I have several times). I know we want our beloved 8's to fair well but it's just not likey and this comparison is really just retarded.

 

Well with an extra 1.2L of displacement, a turbocharger, and damn near stripped-to-racecar-status interior I'd sure hope an STi would beat an RX8. I'd tell them pretty much the same thing I tell Z owners:

You have 2 less seats, about 50 more horsepower, almost 100 more ft-lbs of torque, and an extra 2.2L of engine displacement and you want kudos for winning in a straight line? Wow do you guys have a Toyota Prius on your victory kill list too?

 

Don't race, just remind him that he still drives an Impreza. The STI is a mean piece of machinery but it has no elegance. The Limited tries but it too is still an Impreza, it does not have the legacy the RX's have.

its an sti... what does that mean in today's term? it means sexually transmittied infection... (former nursing major)... just tell him that and walk away...

in all honesty, turbo 8... i will most likely loose unless god has a wrath against imprezas and strikes it with thunder to cause the battery to blow turning off the car and maybe the sti will loose all momentum and the 8 should win.. just hopefully

don't get me wrong, i love em, but for a different reason. styling rx8 KILLS.

you can beat an impreza wrx for sure but i dont think u can beat an sti

 

I can't believe you guys - my modded NA RX8 was about 2 cars lengths slower than a stock STI
from a roll down a 1/2 mile straight (track).
My turbo 8 (290hp -300hp) will absolutely kill a stock STI . Not even close ....

I'm 100% sure i would even kill one on 5lbs of boost

I agree w/ Chris that there are too many variables. Cant tell u how many times i have seen Sti's run mid/low 14's at the strip. So you guys simply stating the Sti will murder the turbo 8, have to take into account the variables involved. Its NOT a runaway comparison as some claim. Prob is, how many bone stock Sti's r actually out there? Just a couple simple mods and that thing is way out of reach, bad driver or not.

Point: Forget about beating ur friend, if by chance u get boosted and beat him, he is likely 1-2 simple mods away from creaming ur ***

 

i kept up with my buddy's 2000 m5 in the canyon's today, and it was my first time actually driving my 8 hard,there were a few times where i was actually closing the gap between both of us,granted it weighed 1k more pounds,but it also had 400hp and torque compared to my 260whp,lol my turbo was glowing orange!! it was pretty exciting..fun times

 

ULL lose..sorry..remember..it doesnt take much for an sti to run in the 12's (if were talking drag racing). It takes mucho dinero and a lot of tuning to get an rx8 to come close to a stock sti...

 

an rx8 with turbo will lose of a dead stop with an a sti but maybe just maybe it can beat an sti if your both in motion. maybeee
