Can I force getting an N Flash?

I took my 8 in for service today at Oak Tree Mazda in San Jose, CA and asked for them to do the N Flash. They said "you don't need it or it's not applicable" according to my VIN.

If I look at the Rosenthal bulletin web site, I'm not as my car wasn't built before 3.14.04 and doesn't meet the ECU vin range..

Any way to get them to do the N flash? Should I not bother?

I have the M flash.... What legit reason would there be that I couldn't get N?

Are there any dealers in the Bay Area that will do an N flash?

Tell them your oil light came on, and your oil was topped off. That is one of the symptoms that can get you the N.

Tell them you've been having hard-starts and that it takes up to 10 seconds of cranking to start your car.

What KHTM said, I brought my car in for something else and the tech said that I needed N flash due to hard starts, so now I have it.

Yes...Mazda of Oakland will do it as long as your VIN and build date fall within the TSB. There service is top notch as well. Remember to make some lame excuse too.

Is the N flash really that much of an improvement? I haven't really had that much of an improvement with the M flash over the previous. Still I just needed one more post to get me past the 1399 mark so here it is.

I just had mine flashed. I'm assuming it was N since it was just done about 3 weeks ago. Before the flash I was getting 17.5-18 mpg consistently. After the flash its jumping between 13 and 15. The car is smoother at low rpms (stop and go freeway) but thats the only difference. This tiny improvement in drivability certainly isn't worth a 4-5 mpg hit...
