Buying new remote/key....

I need an extra remote and key for my car. I got it with a single remote and two keys -- one regular, one valet.

The question is, can I have them cut the key and then program everything myself? As I understand it, I don't need any remotes to program a remote, and I need 2 working keys to program another key. Will the valet key work for that?

And do I have to reprogram both remotes at the same time, or can I just program the existing one?

Thanks!

Oh and as an aside... how much will it cost for the key+fob without programming?

I believe you need one already working remote to program additional remotes and two working keys to program additional keys (a valet key is fine) (without the use of a WDS system).

This has been discussed before, I think.

A search will give you lots of info (including the proper programming procedure)

Sounds like you've got everything you need to add more remotes and keys.

Once you enter the programming mode for keys, you have to program all the keys you want to stay active. Once you enter the programming mode for remotes, you have to program all the remotes you want to stay active.

a new switchblade key will run at least $180 from the dealer. There are other options like our handy forum vendors, or you could by a used fob and just a new key, etc. etc. I'll leave it up to you to find a good deal. [Ps- check the for sale sub forum and you can get lucky!]

You can program the new remote by itself, no need for other remotes.

You need two working keys to program a new one. Your valet key will work just fine as the 2nd key.
