Burnt oil smell
Sorry, I asked this question in another thread, but I would really like to hear first hand experiences: does a new RX-8 normally smell of burnt oil during the first miles? And if so, how many miles before it ends smelling?
Thank you! ;-)

Any car with a new catalytic converter will smell similarly. 5 years from now when we have to replace the original converter the smell will come back. I'm sure there are other new components in the engine compartment adding to the aroma, but the converter is a big part. Mine was gone in less than 1000 miles.

Here's what you do - install a Aldehyde air filter:

Presto, smell (which is normal, as others have said) is gone.

Ah, I just noticed you are from Italy. I spent a month there a few years ago (just before the change to the Euro). Driving on the Autostrada from Rome, through Umbria and into Tuscany was one of the highlights of the trip, not to mention driving in the Tuscan countryside itself. You live in a beautiful country! If I could only bring my '8 over on my next trip! Now, please go buzz some tourists on the Autostrada for me.

George,
we could swap vehicles next time! ;-)
I went to Oregon (on the way to Seattle) some years ago, one of the funniest things of the trip was "attacking" dune sands with the quads... beautiful! I would like to come back, some time.
I would buzz turists with extreme pleasure, but recently Police patrols have become incredibly nasty... :-(((((((
