I went to Mazda this morning because of a flat tire on my way to work , and the service manager was there. He told me that he has a fix for the brakes and asked me if I had the time to put the new part on. I couldn’t do it at the time. I didn't ask specifics because I was late for work and had a big meeting.

I'm going to pass by this week anyway to get the new rear light installed (condensation build up because of a cracked rear light cover), and get some documentation from the service manager before getting anything installed. I really want to know what they did in order to rectify the problem. I’ll keep you all posted.

oh my god...

the reason your brakes squeal is because we have aggressive brake pads and like all high performance brake pads they glaze over extremely easily. Just drive a few blocks while dragging the brakes and they will be fine - the pads just need to be resurfaced. There is no frikkin problem with your braking system, just be happy Mazda made the decision for putting these pads on the car and making it the best stopping production car to ever come out of Japan.

Some cures would be going down to the local pep boys and buying crap pads that won't squeal and will decrease your stopping power (which is what Mazda will probably end up doing if people keep complaining), getting slotted rotors which continually resurface the pads, or just dragging the brakes every once in a while to keep the pads fresh...

...or just file a rediculously stupid class action suit and live the 21st century american dream

No... Mazda knows about the "problem" and is going to "fix" it... So they say.

Didnt they stop making the Pinto in like 1980?

You must mean the 1987 Escort...

But the Escort GT was a decent car in its day for the money!

Yes... probably a bad idea too...

Too bad my breaks are squeaking (only sometimes) with 21K on a 2004.

Just was looking at different ideas of things people have tried.

Definitely not ready to sue Mazda! LOVE the car too much...
