Brake Noise

I've had my RX8 for 4 days and I am noticing a noise after I put the car in reverse and then drive forward. It seems like the noise is simultaneous with the release of the brakes. Is this normal?

Probably the ABS system doing it's calibration thing, assuming it only happens one time when you first move out.

Does it go away once you start driving? Mine stays garaged during the week and the moisture we are having right now really rusts my discs bad. But as soon as I get it out of the driveway the noise goes away and so does the rust.

Like I said, it only does it's calibration thing one time, shortly after you move the car and after it has been parked for some considerable period of time. If you park it overnight or longer, it will make the sound again--one time.

The rust has nothing to do with the ABS calibration sound I'm refering to. But if you apply the parking brake with the pads wet, and the car is parked for a time, the pads can "freeze" (i.e., rust) to the rotors and you may hear a pop sound when you first move the car as the pads break loose from the rear rotors. The rust on the rotors is not a mechanical problem as lon as your car doesn't sit for months without moving. It's basically an appearance problem. As you indicate, it will scrub off after a few brake applications.

mine does this too - both things mentioned. ABS when you first move car and brake freeze after rotors get wet and car sits and they dry. perfectly normal.
